Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (599K0AV)

My victus fan is almost always on even when turned off from bios. Some times fans stop spinning, but only if you leave laptop for at least 10 minutes, but if you start using it, even open notepad, fans start spinning. (fans are too noisy compare to hp omen's,  they make a squeaky sound and it's very noticeable when they work, I use it as a work laptop and it's very hard to be around when all day long they make that sound). Also they do not work with constant speed, but within a second change speed from slow to fast, as if they want to turn off but immediately turn on. I am attaching the sensor temperatures at which the fans are spinning. looks like there's no point in making the fans run at this temperature.

Hi @Slavka_,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you are experiencing several issues with your HP Victus 15.6-inch gaming laptop related to the fan noise and behavior. Here are some steps and solutions you can try to address these problems.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Ensure that your BIOS and all device drivers are up to date. HP often releases updates to improve fan control and system stability.

  • BIOS Update: Check the HP support website for the latest BIOS update for your model.
  • Drivers Update: Use HP Support Assistant or visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers, especially for the chipset and thermal management.

Check Power Settings

Sometimes, power settings can influence how the fans operate.

  • Power Plan: Set your power plan to 'Balanced' rather than 'High Performance' when you are not gaming. This can reduce the workload on your CPU and GPU, resulting in less heat and fan usage.
  • Advanced Power Settings: Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Adjust the settings for Processor power management to reduce the maximum processor state to 80-90%.

Thermal Management Settings

HP laptops often come with thermal management software that allows you to control the cooling settings.

  • HP Command Center: If your laptop has HP Command Center, use it to adjust the thermal profile. Setting it to 'Comfort' or 'Quiet' can reduce fan noise.

Clean the Fans and Vents

Dust accumulation can cause the fans to work harder and produce more noise.

  • Clean the Fans: Carefully clean the fans and air vents using compressed air. Ensure the laptop is turned off and disconnected from power before cleaning.

Monitor Temperatures

Using software like HWMonitor or Core Temp, keep an eye on your system temperatures. If temperatures are unusually high, it may indicate a cooling issue or excessive background processes.

Adjust Fan Settings in BIOS

Although you mentioned turning off the fans in BIOS, some BIOS settings might still influence fan behavior.

  • Fan Control: Recheck the BIOS settings for fan control options. Some BIOS versions allow for detailed fan speed adjustments or silent mode settings.

Use External Cooling Solutions

If the internal cooling system remains noisy, consider using an external laptop cooling pad. This can help reduce internal fan usage by providing additional cooling from the outside.

By following these steps, you should be able to reduce the noise and improve the fan behavior of your HP Victus gaming laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

bios updated and reset, the coolers in the laptop are clean (the laptop has worked not more than a month), the CPU frequency is reduced, the plan balanced, if you set “quiet” mode in command center noise becomes even more than in normal mode, the temperature is no more than 50 degrees, at idle the processor can fall below 35, Always fan on mode is turned off in the bios.
it looks like the bios firmware has set wrong values when to turn on the fan.
