Need to replace my laptop battery - how can I find this please?

Hi,

My laptop is currently reliant on the charger being plugged in and randomly switches off at times. When it switches off, I am met with a "Primary (Internal) Battery 601" error message.

I assume I will have to replace the internal battery. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement please, and how easy is it to do this myself?

Chapter 3 has the battery part numbers and descriptions used in the model series.

4 cell     HP part # 917724-856

3 cell     HP part # L08855-856

Unfortunately, I don't know which battery is installed in your notebook.

Enter your notebook's serial number in the search window at the link below and it should provide the description of the battery that is installed in your notebook.

The 3-cell is 87.62 pounds

I have tried your solution to check if my laptop has a 3-cell or 4-cell battery but could not find a description there. I am not sure on how to find this out.

I googled the L08934-2C1 part number that was listed in the link you posted, and searches indicate the L08934-2C1 is the 3-Cell battery.

I'd say you'd be OK since the battery has a 12-month warranty, and that would be no less than the genuine HP battery would have.

Hopefully, the notebook doesn't produce any messages about a non-HP battery being installed like some of them do.

And I don't know if yours would do that or not.

It might be in the older models that do that.

The L08855-856 battery part number is used in multiple model notebooks as you can see from clicking to expand the cross on the partsurfer list at the link below.

The part that bothers me is none of the notebook model numbers the seller references that part number is good for, show up on the list.

So, either the seller has multiple battery listings and goofed on this one listing the supported notebooks, or that listing is not the right battery, even though the part number is correct.

This one on Amazon lists two part numbers and the 15-cx0xx model series.

I don't know.  There's just too much conflicting information.

It might be safer to buy from HP and know you are getting the right one.
