OMEN MAX 16 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-ah0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I upgraded from a Legion Lenovo RTX 3070 that was from 2021 that had a boot up time of 3 seconds. Given the specs of my new HP Omen Max, I expected a boot up time as fast if not better, but my boot up time is 10 seconds on average. Looking at the BIOs, I see that there's no fast boot setting. Multiple owners of new HP Omen Max laptops are reporting the same thing as me.

Is HP looking into improving the boot up time through a future BIOs update?

Hi @ShadowCloud,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the details, and we appreciate your detailed feedback regarding the OMEN MAX 16-inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-ah0000 (IDS Base Model).

We understand your concern, especially when upgrading from a high-performance machine like the Lenovo Legion with RTX 3070 and noticing a longer boot time despite newer hardware. You're right to expect fast performance, and we’ll address your questions directly and transparently.

Is HP Aware of This?

Yes — the HP firmware engineering team is actively monitoring feedback from OMEN MAX users, and performance optimization, including boot behavior, is part of the ongoing development roadmap.

While we cannot share specific dates, we can confirm:

A future BIOS update is under evaluation to optimize POST and boot times on OMEN MAX 16-inch systems, including restoring options to the equivalent functionality.

What You Can Try Now

Although there is no Fast Boot option currently in BIOS, you can optimize your boot speed with the following:

1. Disable Unnecessary Startup Services

  • Open Task Manager > Startup Apps and disable non-essential apps (e.g., game launchers or analytics tools).

2. Enable Windows Fast Startup

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
  2. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”
  3. Check “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”
  4. Save changes and restart

3. Ensure Latest BIOS + Firmware

Visit 👉 OMEN MAX 16 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-ah0000 Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

  • Install the latest BIOS version and firmware tools (such as HP UWP Extension SoftPaqs, EC firmware, etc.)

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I purchased the HP Omen MAX 16-ah0187TX. It takes over 36 seconds from the time I press the power button until the Windows screen appears. I'm disappointed that a high-end model can boot this slowly. There are other minor issues. I don't think I'll be buying any more HP Omen models.
