Hello,
I have an HP OMEN 16.1 Gaming Laptop with an i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an RTX 4070 8GB GPU. The laptop was working fine until last Saturday, when I removed a faulty Crucial SSD that I had been testing. I didn’t use the laptop again until Tuesday, by which time the battery had run low.
When I tried to restart the laptop, I noticed it wasn't charging at all. I attempted a hard reset both with and without the battery connected. The laptop only boots up when connected to the AC adapter, but it does not turn on using the battery.
I also tried resetting the CMOS by pressing Windows + V along with the power button. The laptop booted up with the AC adapter connected but displayed a “CMOS 502” error.
I ran a diagnostic test for the battery using the HP Virtual Assistant, but it indicated that the battery is not connected even when it is.
I’m beginning to think that the battery might be dead and needs to be replaced. Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

@Suhas9601, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Test with HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
Power off the laptop.
Press ESC repeatedly at startup, then press F2 for diagnostics.
Run Battery Test and System Test.
If the battery is not detected, it will explicitly state so.
BIOS Update/Reset to Defaults
Boot into BIOS (ESC > F10).
Select Load Setup Defaults (usually F9).
If you're running an older BIOS version, consider updating it using HP's BIOS update tool via USB.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Garp_senchau,
Thank you for the steps.
1. Test with HP Hardware Diagnostics:
I did as you explained; it showed ‘battery not connected’ even when the battery was connected (refer to the below).
2. BIOS Update
I followed the steps as indicated and tried to update the BIOS but with the battery connected, it isn't showing the update option. However, I tried disconnecting the battery and updating it but it asks to ‘connect to AC power’ even though it is connected.
If possible, please detail the steps for the BIOS update using USB flash drive.
The only way to start the laptop is to press ‘Windows + V’ and power button (with battery connection) and the response time is too high. Also, the AC power indicator LED flashes orange when the system is turned on.
Thanks,
