Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

@Guarf,

I've already tried doing those steps but it didn't really improve the overall stability of the fan control unfortunately. Maybe this can work for other models. If people are reading this, make sure to share your own experience with the model number of the laptop that you own!

Still, thanks for your suggestion, I appreciate it :]

Thanks,

Alexis

Update: @mishelmoron on the forums confirmed that HP is actively aware of the issue, and got fully refunded after sending back their laptop. On my end, I've sent a registered letter to HP France regarding my situation -- I'll continue to send replies up until I either get my money back or that I have a permanent solution.

I have the same issue. I have OMEN 16 C0000.

I live in Turkey and  i demand refund or new device. I changed the fans thinking they are faulty. Nothing changed. Issue happens with all operating systems. I tried Windows, Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch.

My issues happened after F26 bios update so i also suspect that. I cannot confirm because HP doesnt let me downgrade. If anyone please knows how to bypass bios update version check please contact me asap.

It seems the problem is spreading to other models?! I still don’t know whether it’s a software or hardware issue, because after following the procedure I described earlier in this thread, I was able to work for over 50 hours and play for more than 10 hours before the notebook started failing again more and more frequently.

I’m really disappointed — I’m still waiting for HP to clarify whether this is a hardware defect that can be repaired or if a firmware update will be released to prevent this issue.

As we checked the BIOS version that caused Omen 17 to cause this problem is F.13 which is released at May 21, 2025.

My Omen 16 issues happened after BIOS version F.26. Which is also released at May , 2025!!!!

They released a corrupt bios update on May , 2025 and after 6 months there is no update! HP is responsible for this!

We dont know if the corruption damaged the hardware. We should all document this issue together because this is against EU rules. We should get full refund or a new device!

Please add mine too

System Model: OMEN by HP Laptop 17t-ck100
BIOS Version/Date: AMI F.20, 4/28/2025

My laptop is under warranty, so HP took it and replaced the fan. It was working fine on the first day, but over time, the fan started stopping frequently. I performed a factory reset and reinstalled all the software. I then realized that when the fan requires a high amount of power, its RPM suddenly spikes to around 10,000 RPM (while the maximum is 4,600 RPM) and then drops to 0 RPM, stopping completely. Sometimes, the fan returns to normal after stopping, but other times it stays off until I reboot the laptop.

I suspect that these RPM spikes might have accumulated damage over time and caused the fan to deteriorate. That’s just my guess.

I also changed my fans with original unused pair but nothing changed at all. Did you updated your BIOS version in last 6-8 months? and when this issue first started to happen?

@Hey1111, FYI your laptop is now referred as a "ck0000" model. I have updated the list, thanks for your input!

Before I sent my laptop to HP, I always checked for updates using HP Support Assistant, so yes, my BIOS was up to date. Come to think of it, I started experiencing overheating and BSOD issues about six months ago. I didn’t realize that the overheating was caused by the fan stopping because I usually wear a headset while using the laptop. The system would shut down from overheating once or twice a week, but I continued using it, assuming it was due to normal wear (after two years of use), poor cooling design, or a high TGP (145 W, if I remember correctly).

Last month, the overheating became unbearable even after I tried undervolting, replacing the fans with identical OEM SUNON units, and applying better thermal paste. I eventually discovered that HP hides the “Processor Performance Boost Mode” setting, so I had to enable it through the Registry and then disable it manually and become worse. That was when I finally realized the fan was not spinning properly, which caused the frequent shutdowns.

Before sending it to HP, I found this article describing the exact same symptoms and learned that it might be a BIOS related software problem rather than a hardware issue. I am quite skeptical about the BIOS update. If you visit the HP Support website and check the driver section, the latest supported operating system listed is Windows 11 22H2, while most users, including myself, are now on 24H2.

So I am wondering if it would be safe to install the optional BIOS update (version F23 Rev.A). I do not want to make the situation worse, even though the laptop is currently unstable, it can still run for a few hours before shutting down again.
