Hi there,

 

I have an HP Omen 15 ek0054tx laptop which is having some issues which I think are coming from the graphics card. 

 

The issues revolve around the RTX 2060 graphics card crashing consistently when put under some load - mainly when the laptop is outputting via HDMI to a TV or via USB to my Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. If I play a game while outputting to a device in Hybrid GPU mode (from the Omen Command Centre) the app will crash not long after opening and there will be a consistent loud fan noise. If I then try to restart the computer I get a BSOD with a stopcode 'VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR'.

If I switch to using only 'Discreet Graphics' (Omen Command Centre) then I get maybe an extra minute before the game crashes to a black screen and I have to manually reboot.

 

I tried installing new graphics drivers from NVIDIA which didn't fix the problems and now I have reverted the graphics drivers back to the recommended ones from the HP driver support page for my model of Omen Laptop.. still with no success.

 

I understood that my model of HP Omen was fully VR ready when I purchased it and I've been having this issue without being able to find a solution for a long while now.

 

Has this been an issue for anyone else?

After doing more research I'm starting to think this may potentially be an overheating issue. Would undervolting potentially help? Anyone know a good way to measure temps before a crash?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the computer is overheating.

 

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

 

I would like to inform you that 90C is normal on the gaming computer. I recommend you use the Omen command center to change the settings which suit your needs.

Hey-ho,

 

To get temps of your CPU, GPU, ... there are many free and very good softwares. You can try HWInfo64 (when the soft starts, just check "Sensors Only" to get only... uhm sensors 🙂 You could see temps and see if your CPU is throttling, causing crashes.

 

You can try ThrottleStop too. This one is a bit different cause you  can undervolt your CPU and/or "unwatting" to make your computer cooler. (this is the one I use to undervolt my CPU until "-115mV").

Or if your PC is compatible with it, you can try the Omen Gaming Hub . But the last ones v11.0.11.10/14 which has an Undervolting tab (if compatible with your PC) are both buggy.

We are waiting for a fix.

 

so I suggest you to try HWinfo and/or ThrottleStop.

 

Other apps: Intel XTU, MSI AfterBurner, ...
