I have a 2018 Hp Omen 15-dc0066nb that i'm trying to save from the trash.
After replacing the ssd and the RAM modules, i reflashed a stock BIOS with external programmer and got it to boot again.
it does have a few "compatibility" issues with windows 10 Pro x64 like:
- The realtek audio (which worked at first) suddenly decided to stop working and now doesn't "see" the internal speakers as connected (tried every possible adviced solution out there, still no audio)
- The system info is missing (due to flashing a stock bios with external programmer). I was able to restore serial and product SKU + featurebyte info with HP BCU, only UUID is still missing here
- the keyboard has the < \ > key on the right hand side but it triggers as ctrl (
- the intel ME has status disabled and i'm not able to re-enable it
Also i noticed various driver install.cmd scripts available on hp support either don't support the current windows version (unless you modify the script) or rely on utils in the c:\system.sav\util folder which is not present after replacing ssd.
Even though HP Cloud recovery is listed as a solution for this model (in the drivers & downloads section) it doesn't resolve my product id (4CN16EA#UUG).
googleing for the issue pointed me to older threads in this forum where a system.sav.rar file for omen laptops was linked from the usa ftp farm (which is no longer accessible)
So, does anyone still have access to the HP ftp or does anyone have a copy of the system.sav folder present on HP omen 15 laptops? I will be forever grateful 😄 also any tips regarding the other mentioned issues are more than welcome.
thanks,
Maarten

@M_DM, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Props to you for reviving your Omen 15-dc0066nb — it sounds like you've done some serious work already. Let’s break this down issue by issue, and I’ll do my best to help:
Realtek Audio – Internal Speakers Not Detected
This is a common headache after BIOS or OS changes. Here’s a checklist to get it back:Try this first:
- Go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click Realtek and uninstall both the driver and software.
- Then reboot and install this version (tested for your model):
▶️ Realtek HD Audio Driver sp90847
Also:
- Open the Realtek Audio Console (from MS Store) and check playback devices.
- Go to Sound Settings > Playback Devices > right-click and enable "Show disabled devices".
- See if "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)" reappears.
If that still fails:
- Check the BIOS for an audio device enable/disable toggle (not always present).
- If you suspect driver conflict, try booting a Linux Live USB (like Ubuntu) to see if audio works there. If it does, you know it’s purely a Windows driver issue.
Missing System Info after BIOS Flash
You're already ahead by restoring Serial/SKU/Feature Byte — nice.
To restore UUID and full DMI info:
Try using:
- HP DMI Tool (HPBIOSUPDREC / HPBQ138.EXE) — available on forums like MDL (MyDigitalLife).
- The missing UUID can often be regenerated using:
wmic csproduct get UUID
- But this usually shows a default/fake UUID (FFFFFFFF...) unless set from DMI tool or directly from BIOS.
Keyboard Key Misbehaving (\ | Key = Ctrl)
This usually happens if:
- Wrong keyboard layout is selected (e.g., English US instead of BE/NL/FR)
- Or the embedded controller firmware (EC FW) is mismatched/corrupted
Try:
- In Windows, go to Language settings and ensure the keyboard layout matches your physical keymap.
- If already correct: EC firmware might not match the keyboard layout. Unfortunately, EC FW is often baked into the BIOS — you'd need the original HP BIOS bin matching your model + region.
Intel ME Status: Disabled
You likely flashed a clean BIOS that lacks the Intel ME (Management Engine) firmware or it’s corrupted. To fix:
- Download the correct Intel ME firmware and Flash Tool for your chipset (usually ME 11.x for 8th Gen Intel).
- You can use MEAnalyzer to inspect your current BIOS.
- Reflash ME region only with fptw64.exe -me -f me.bin (if write access is unlocked).
If the ME region is locked, you’ll need to unlock BIOS flash descriptor, which sometimes means shorting pins on the board or using a BIOS programmer again.
HP Cloud Recovery Not Working with Product ID
This happens often when:
- Flashing a clean BIOS wipes the internal "tattooing" or PlatformConfig.
- HP’s server can't validate your Product ID as genuine/recoverable.
Try this workaround:
- Use the generic Cloud Recovery tool:
- Choose “I need help identifying my product”
- Manually enter model as "HP OMEN 15-dc0000 series" (don’t use full product ID)
- Or extract the recovery image from another identical Omen via C:\Recovery\OEM (if available).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
i was waiting for some replacement parts and a new flash clip.
to answer the questions:
- internal speakers: still NOK (even after replacing in/output module and flatcable) realtek app says "rpc not available"
- keyboard mapping (current: belgian (period)) this is the correct mapping but if i remember correctly it uses the system event utility to replace ctrl with <\> and that still doesn't work. likely because the system.sav folder is incomplete. it seems unlikely that ec is corrupted as i have tried all possible bios versions that still work with the latest power controller image.
- ME status: still disabled (i unlocked write access using FIT and then programming it with external programmer) i tried both FWupdate (which doesn't work as it cant communicate with ME) and FPT -ME (which works but doesn't activate ME)
i still need to try the cloud recovery
anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
