As I pointed out, neither does better than the other as far as heat is concerned. Ive seen both have heat issues, then Ive seen both run equally as cool. Thats why I stated what I did. Depends on your individual machine and the particular chip. One i7 will run cooler than another. One i5 will run cooler than another. Go based on perfomance needs.

That is completely subjective. What are your goals for the laptop?
Personally I would go for the i7 if Im getting at least a 2060.
Its really what ever you can afford. Ive seen both i5 and i7's have trouble with heat in some cases.
If price is not an issue, you might want to wait for the new Omen X 2s coming out the middle of the year sometime. The new series will come with an i9, dual monitor system, all new cooling system with liquid metal thermal paste. So... we'll have to wait and see the reviews when that comes out.

I would mostly be gaming and consuming media on my laptop
Yeah I saw the X 2s but pretty sure that it'd be out of budget and also I need a laptop rn
Which one out of the i5 and i7 will manage better heat and better performance overall

Ah OK.
CTO (configure to order) can be tricky on what it includes because CTO's don't have a specs page to look up and no one would have any way of finding out usually.
Some CTO's are already preconfigured and built for certain stores like (for example) Costco. So Costco (in this case) would have to tell you what keyboard it comes with.
The only way to ensure you get the RGB (4-zone) keyboard on a CTO is to order it from HP's Store, where it will have a list of hardware options to choose from.
As far as an M.2 slot, Yes it does according to the manual. It will be compatible with both NVMe and Sata M.2 2280 SSD's. HP only installs NVMe SSD's in that series apparently.
From what I have seen with "prices now days", Sata and NVMe are both about the same price, so it would only make sense to install NVMe since its faster.
Is this what you needed to know?
