OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 (509V8AV)

I have a HP Omen 17 laptop and I've been experiencing an issue with the Omen Gaming Hub overlays. The overlays work perfectly fine on the desktop and I can activate them using the shortcut keys (Shift+F2). However, when I'm in-game, the Omen Gaming Hub overlays do not function at all. Interestingly, the Xbox Game Bar works perfectly fine in-game, but the Omen Gaming Hub overlays fail to activate.

I've consulted with friends who also own Omen laptops, and they reported that the Omen Gaming Hub overlays work without any issues in their games. This suggests that the problem is specific to my system. I'm looking for a solution to get the Omen Gaming Hub overlays working properly in-game on my Omen 17.

Hi @Faraz_2003,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If the Omen Gaming Hub overlays are not working in-game on your OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck1000 (509V8AV), here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

1. Update Omen Gaming Hub

Make sure you have the latest version of the Omen Gaming Hub installed.

  • Open the Microsoft Store.
  • Go to Library and check for updates.
  • Update the Omen Gaming Hub if an update is available.

2. Check In-Game Overlay Settings

Ensure that in-game overlay settings are enabled within the Omen Gaming Hub.

  • Open the Omen Gaming Hub.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Navigate to the Overlays section.
  • Ensure that the in-game overlay is enabled and the shortcut keys are correctly set (Shift+F2).

3. Check Game Compatibility

Some games may have compatibility issues with third-party overlays. Test the overlay with different games to see if the issue is game-specific.

4. Run Omen Gaming Hub as Administrator

Running the Omen Gaming Hub with administrative privileges can sometimes resolve overlay issues.

  • Right-click the Omen Gaming Hub shortcut.
  • Select Run as administrator.

5. Check for Conflicting Software

Other software, such as screen recorders or other game overlays, might conflict with the Omen Gaming Hub.

  • Disable other overlays or screen recording software while testing the Omen Gaming Hub overlay.
  • Particularly check the Xbox Game Bar settings to see if there are any conflicting settings.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Faraz_2003,

Please find the next steps below.

6. Update Graphics Drivers

Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers can cause issues with overlays.

  • Visit the NVIDIA or AMD website (depending on your GPU) and download the latest drivers.

7. Check Full-Screen Optimizations

Disabling full-screen optimizations might help with overlay issues.

  • Right-click the game’s executable file (.exe).
  • Select Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Check Disable fullscreen optimizations.
  • Click Apply and OK.

8. Reinstall Omen Gaming Hub

If none of the above steps work, try reinstalling the Omen Gaming Hub.

  • Open Settings > Apps.
  • Find the Omen Gaming Hub and uninstall it.
  • Reinstall the Omen Gaming Hub from the Microsoft Store.

9. Verify Game Integrity

If you are using a platform like Steam, verify the integrity of the game files.

  • Open Steam.
  • Go to Library.
  • Right-click on the game and select Properties.
  • Go to the Local Files tab and click Verify integrity of game files.

10. Check Windows Game Mode

Ensure that Windows Game Mode is enabled as it can optimize system resources for gaming.

  • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Gaming > Game Mode.
  • Make sure Game Mode is turned on.

If you have tried all these steps and the issue persists, there may be a more specific problem related to the Omen Gaming Hub or the specific game you are trying to play. In such cases, reach out to HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Hello @Elohi_NR

Thanks for you response.
I have installed many other games and tried to turn the OGH overlays on using Shift+F2 and the overlays worked perfectly. The overlays issue is game-specific.
The overlay doesn't works in GTA V and Read Dead Redemption only. I guess these games isn't allowing Omen Gaming Hub to enable the overlay.
I have found one solution, I just pin the system vitals overlay on the top right corner and whenever i need to access the fan motor speed or performance control i just enables them using the pinned system vitals. I have set the system vitals overlay according to my ease.

Once again thank you so much for your response you explained the fixes so well. Thank you!
Regards,

Faraz
