Hello,
I have been using this Omen laptop since 2018. Now the battery is starting to pop up. I can't find original HP replacement battery. I know there are some John Doe and ACME copies but not HP made anymore.
Therefore I wonder if it is ok to take out the battery and continue to use the laptop with AC power only? It seems to work but is it really safe in the long run?

Hi @tony_1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for explaining your situation clearly, and you're right to be cautious. Here's a breakdown of your concern.
Is It Safe to Use Your HP Omen 17-an0xx Without a Battery?
Yes, it is generally safe to use your laptop without a battery, as long as:
- You use the original HP AC adapter.
- The laptop is placed on a stable surface with good ventilation.
- You understand that any power interruption (like unplugging or a power outage) will immediately shut down the laptop, risking data loss.
Risks of Using Without a Battery
- No backup power: Any accidental unplugging or surge will shut down the system.
- Performance throttling: Some laptops reduce performance when running on AC only.
- BIOS warnings: You may occasionally see startup messages about a missing battery.
About Replacement Batteries
We need to check if it's available or not, to which we need the pc details to be sent in private, so we can check and let you know.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
