Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 (771S6AV)

Distinti saluti.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the reliability of my HP Victus laptop, purchased for approximately €1,000, which suddenly turned off during use and is now completely dead, showing no signs of life whatsoever.

As an IT specialist and programmer, I use the computer for work and software development, including running local artificial intelligence models (via LM Studio). During a normal work session, the laptop abruptly shut off and has never turned back on.

Current state of the device:

The computer is completely inert.

When plugging in the original power adapter, the charging/power LED indicator remains completely unlit.

There is no sign of startup, the fans do not spin, and the keyboard backlight does not activate.

I have already tried following all standard external user recovery procedures provided by HP (hard reset of static charge via the power button and key combinations for BIOS recovery), but the system does not respond in any way.

While I understand that the commercial warranty may have expired, I find it absolutely unacceptable that a laptop designed for gaming and heavy workloads suffers such a failure even in its third year of life.

Consulting industry forums, the Reddit community, and various online testimonials, I found that many other users with the Victus series have suffered the exact same sudden failure, with the PC shutting down under load and the charging LED stopping altogether. This scenario suggests the presence of an intrinsic hardware or design flaw in the power management of this line.

As this is my daily work tool, this shutdown is causing me significant professional inconvenience. I therefore request that HP take charge of this report and provide a solution (repair or replacement of the device), demonstrating the reliability and seriousness expected of a leading brand like HP.

I look forward to hearing from you regarding how to proceed.

Best regards.

Hi  @Migaq,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out .

I do hear your concern about the sudden issue with your HP Victus laptop, especially since it is an important tool for your work, software development, and daily activities. I can certainly understand your concern when a system that was working normally powers off unexpectedly and no longer responds.

To help us better understand the situation and provide the most appropriate guidance, could you kindly share the following details?

  • Was the laptop connected to the original HP charger when the shutdown happened?
  • Prior to the failure, did you notice any unusual symptoms such as:
    • Excessive heat
    • Unexpected restarts
    • Charging issues
    • Battery not charging correctly
    • Fan noise or performance fluctuations
  • Have you tested the HP power adapter and wall outlet with another compatible device, if available?

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

Step 1: Perform a Hardware Power Reset - Click here for steps

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter.
  2. Disconnect all external devices (USB devices, monitors, docking stations, SD cards, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 30-45 seconds.
  4. Connect only the original HP charger.
  5. Check whether the charging LED turns on.

Step 2: Verify the Power Adapter

  • Ensure you are using the original HP adapter.
  • Check whether the adapter LED (if equipped) is illuminated.
  • Inspect the power cable and connector for any signs of damage.
  • Try a different wall outlet directly without a surge protector.

Step 3: Check for Battery or Power Board Response

With the adapter connected:

  • Observe whether any charging light appears near the power connector.
  • Listen carefully for fan activity.
  • Check whether the Caps Lock key or keyboard backlight shows any response when pressing the power button.

Step 4: Attempt BIOS Recovery - Click here for steps

  1. Connect the AC adapter.
  2. Press and hold Windows + B keys.
  3. While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  4. Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B for about 20 seconds.

If the system remains completely unresponsive and there is no charging LED activity, this may indicate a hardware-level power issue that requires further diagnosis.

Hi,

The PC magically recovered yesterday. I think it was caused by the PPTC fuse, but is it possible that this component tripped and cut the power? And did it prevent the PC from turning on until it cooled down, which was the next day?

Thanks.

Hi @Migaq

Thank you for the update, and I'm glad to hear that your HP Victus laptop has powered back on and is functioning again.

As a precaution, we recommend running the HP Hardware Diagnostics to check the battery, power adapter, and system components for any reported issues. You may also monitor the system over the next few days to see if the behaviour reoccurs.

Should the issue happen again, or if you notice any additional symptoms, kindly let us know, so we can assist you further.

Thank you for the update and support.

I have completed all the tests using HP Hardware Diagnostics, and no errors were found. The battery, power adapter, and system components all appear to be functioning properly.

I just have one question: given that the laptop is now working and all diagnostics passed, is it normal for an issue like this (a sudden power-on failure) to happen occasionally as a one-time glitch, or does it typically point to an underlying problem?

Thanks again for your assistance.
