Hi @THIRU_1710,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Experiencing a freeze on a brand new laptop can be concerning, but it's not necessarily uncommon, especially during intense gaming sessions. Here are a few steps and considerations to help address and possibly prevent similar issues in the future.
- Check for Overheating: Since you mentioned the laptop was in performance mode with high fan speed, overheating could be a potential cause. Monitor your laptop's temperature using software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner. Ensure that temperatures are within safe limits (typically below 85-90°C for CPU and GPU).
- Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all your drivers, especially graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. Also, check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop model from HP's support website.
- Check for Background Processes: Sometimes, background processes or applications can interfere with games and cause freezes. Make sure unnecessary applications are closed while gaming.
- System Maintenance: Regularly clean the laptop's vents and ensure good airflow. Dust accumulation can contribute to overheating.
- Power Settings: While gaming, ensure your power settings are optimized for performance. Sometimes, aggressive power-saving settings can interrupt gaming performance.
- Monitor Resource Usage: Use Task Manager to monitor resource usage (CPU, GPU, RAM) while gaming. High usage may indicate potential issues or resource bottlenecks.
- Event Viewer Check: After a freeze, check Windows Event Viewer for any critical errors or warnings around the time of the freeze. This can provide clues to what might have caused the issue.
- Hardware Diagnostics: Use HP's built-in hardware diagnostic tools (usually accessible during boot) to check for any hardware issues.
Given that your laptop returned to normal after killing the game process, it might have been a temporary software glitch or a resource overload.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
