A part of the screen twitching left and right in horizonal-bar motion.  The taskbar also keeps twitching.  How do I fix this?

@tecboy, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Screen twitching, especially affecting only part of the screen and the taskbar, is often tied to graphics driver issues, refresh rate mismatches, or display timing problems. Since you're using a high-end device like the OMEN Transcend 14 (8U970AV) with Windows 11, let’s walk through the most relevant fixes:

Fix 1: Check and Reinstall Display Drivers (Intel + NVIDIA)

Your OMEN uses hybrid graphics (Intel + NVIDIA). A driver mismatch or bug can cause screen artifacts.

Steps:

  1. Uninstall the current drivers (both Intel and NVIDIA):
    • Open Device ManagerDisplay Adapters.
    • Right-click Intel® GraphicsUninstall (check "Delete the driver software").
    • Do the same for NVIDIA GPU.
    • Reboot the laptop.
  2. Install fresh drivers:
    • Visit the official HP page for your model:
      HP OMEN Transcend 14-fb0000 Drivers.
    • Download and install the Intel and NVIDIA graphics drivers listed under "Driver - Graphics".
    • Restart your PC.

Fix 2: Set Refresh Rate Manually

High refresh rate displays sometimes get stuck or behave oddly due to a Windows bug or app conflict.

Steps:

  1. Right-click Desktop → Display settings.
  2. Scroll down to Advanced display.
  3. Click Display Adapter properties.
  4. Under the Monitor tab, set refresh rate to 60Hz or 120Hz (whichever is native).
    (Avoid “Dynamic” options for now.)
  5. Click Apply and observe if the twitching stops.

Fix 3: Disable Variable Refresh Rate

If VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) or G-Sync is causing the glitch, disabling it may help.

Steps:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
  2. Scroll down and click Change default graphics settings.
  3. Turn off "Variable refresh rate".
  4. Restart your laptop.

Fix 4: Boot in Safe Mode

Check if the twitching happens in Safe Mode:

  • If not, it’s almost certainly a driver or software conflict.
  • Press Win + R → type msconfig → Boot tab → Safe boot → Restart.

Fix 5: External Display Test

Connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or USB-C.

  • If the external display works fine → Panel hardware issue may be the cause.
  • If both show the twitch → Software/driver problem is more likely.

Bonus Checks:

  • Disable any third-party screen recording / overlay / RGB software (like MSI Afterburner, Armoury Crate, iCue, etc.).
  • Run HP Support Assistant → Check for BIOS and firmware updates.
  • If the issue started recently, try a System Restore point.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
