OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ek1000 (2B1K3AV)

I am experiencing a persistent issue on my HP OMEN laptop (Model: OMEN 15-ek1xxx, Serial Number: [insert serial number here]) related to the NVIDIA GPU.

Despite a clean install of Windows, latest BIOS and driver updates, and full software diagnostics, the system continues to show the following symptoms:

  • Repeated Event ID 153 errors linked to nvlddmkm.sys (GPU reset / TDR error)

  • Crashes or resets under GPU load (gaming, stress tests)

  • Behavior persists across Safe Mode and clean OS

  • Adjusting TdrDelay, undervolting, and underclocking did not help

  • System passes memory tests and shows no overheating issues

  • The issue occurs in both Windows and Linux environments

Based on this, I suspect a possible hardware issue—potentially related to the GPU or motherboard VRM. I’ve also run HP UEFI diagnostics and monitored GPU power delivery.

Please advise on the next steps. If necessary, I am ready to proceed with service or an RMA request. Kindly let me know if you need any additional logs or hardware diagnostics.

Hi @Prince9253, Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

It’s clear you’ve conducted thorough troubleshooting and system validation.

Summary of the Issue

You’re experiencing:

  • Persistent Event ID 153 with nvlddmkm.sys (GPU TDR resets)

  • Crashes under GPU load, even with:

    • Clean OS installs (Windows & Linux)

    • Latest BIOS and driver updates

    • Undervolting/underclocking

    • Safe Mode testing

  • HP UEFI diagnostics passed, no thermal issues, and system RAM is verified to be stable

This strongly rules out software issues, TDR tuning, and even some power-related misconfigurations, making a hardware fault (GPU, VRM, or motherboard) the most likely root cause.

We suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you further.
