 This problem has been reported previously by somepne elsebut the solutions offered do not solve the problem. I have copied their post as mine os identical.

HP Pavilion 15 , approximately 3 years old, will only run on Battery. When Battery fully discharged must be plugged into recharge as will not run on mains supply. Laptop will not charge when switched on and plugged into mains. Tried removing battery but laptop will not turn on without battery in place.

 

When turned off and plugged in to charge, charging light is orange, and changes to white when battery is fully charged.

 

It will run when plugged into mains supply but is running on Battery only.

 

Windows is fully up to date. BIOS Version/Date Insyde F.29, 10/11/2022

 

Are there any recent suggestions how to overcome the problem?

Welcome to the HP support community.

 

I understand that notebook battery charging issues, I am glad to assist you.

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern: 

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%. 

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins. 

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager: 
1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.  

2) Expand “Batteries”.  

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.  

4) Click on “Uninstall”.  

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver  

6) Shutdown the computer.  

7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.  

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.  

9) Go to Device Manager.  

10) Expand Batteries.  

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there. 

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"  

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.  

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

This won't be helpful but the problem has resolved itself.

 

I don;t know whether a Windows 11 update contained a fix. I had tried all suggestion but without success.
