OMEN by HP - 15t-dc000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

HI,

HP Omen 15 model 15t-dc000 CTO

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-15-dc0000-laptop-pc-series/20329817/model/21869533?s...

is eligible for Windows 11 update officially.

[content removed]

However, the drivers are way out of date. They haven't been updated in several years.

The driver list does not even include Windows 11 OS:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-by-hp-15-dc0000-laptop-pc-series/20329817/mode...

I am afraid if I update the PC, it may cause issues with Windows 11.

Yes. My HP Omen 15-dc0 machine is running Windows 11 now, No problem so far EXCEPT it won't upgrade to Windows 11 22H2.

I've got 4 Windows 11 machines 1 Dell and 3 HP's (HP 840 G5, HP Omen 15-dc0071TX and HP Envy 15-ee0047nr). They are from 2 to 4 years old. They are all up-to-date Windows updates and HPSA (for HP machines) BUT ONLY the Dell now runs Windows 11 22H2 other HP machines have same error, no clue, only:

I believe something to do with driver. Hope HPSA can pick that out soon.

Regards.

@AndroFan@banhien,

Our HP Forum friend @Paul_Tikkanen pointed out a very effective method to upgrade Windows 11 to Version 22H2 using the steps outlined in this YouTube video: (1885) Windows 11 22H2: Upgrade unsupported hardware - YouTube.

This method has been working great on the two desktop platforms I applied it to: an HP ProDesk 400 G4 SFF running with an Intel i5-7600K, and an HP Z240 SFF running with a Xeon E3-1280 v6 -both processors are not even "Microsoft-approved" for W11.  Also, there were no problems installing additional 22H2 patches released by Microsoft since upgrading to 22H2.

Here's the Sys Info of my HP Z240 SFF:

Hope this was helpful.

Hi, all:

There is also this method which I like even better than the YouTube video I posted.

Using this method, you make a slight modification to the actual W11 installation file.

Upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 on unsupported hardware | Jensd's I/O buffer

@Paul_Tikkanen,

Outstanding!  -Have bookmarked/added this link to my favorites and will apply when needed.

For the time being, my aforementioned desktops -and I forgot to mention also an HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF running with an Intel i7-7700K -all bad@ss 7th gen processors, are all/still "in the W11 22H2 green" -literally so:

I have done in-place upgrades to W11 22H2 on all of my PCs except 3 that I had to clean install it on and two (dc7800, 8000 Elite) that absolutely refuse to upgrade to 22H2 and I will wait until a cold and snowy day to clean install W11 on those because I don't use those two PC's.

I've successfully used the method I just posted on two PC's where the youtube video 'run as administrator' batch file approach didn't work.

So, for me this has been a mixed bag of clean installs of 22H2, the 'run as administrator' batch file method and the ISO mod approach.

Since it only takes me about 2 hours to clean install Windows and reinstall all of my programs and files, it is not that difficult.

The Dong Knows Best method to upgrade from W10>W11 21H1 was by far the easiest one to use and I upgraded 13 out of 14 PC's successfully to W11 using that method, which unfortunately no longer works on the 22H2 ISO file.

Guys I know how to upgrade Windows 11. My concern is the drivers that haven't been updated. My PC is officially supported. I just want HP to update drivers for smooth transition.

My machines are all running Windows 11 now and they are Intel Gen 8 and Gen 10 machines. I still have 3 machines which use Intel gen 6 and Gen 7 but I prefer to run Windows 10. They are all Dell E series machines

@banhien,

I imagine it is a personal preference. As a matter of personal deviance, I don't like to be told I can't do certain things.  Watch me.  And as @Paul_Tikkanen also observed, Windows 11 runs faster and smoother than W10.  Summarizing, there are no rational reasons I can think of why especially high-end 7th gen Intel processors (specifically the i7-7700K) should be denied -arbitrarily in my opinion- W11 eligibility.

Why? - The main W11 requirement was supposedly Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (as well as Intel Trusted Execution Technology) and the i7-7700K has it all.

Furthermore, the i7-7700K is a bad@ss powerhouse gaming processor as I can personally attest to this.  This CPU paired with a high-end graphics card, such as the RTX 3080 OC 12GB card or beyond, fitted with an M.2 NVMe SSD boot drive and sufficient RAM, will all but assure that this processor will shine brilliantly for at least another decade. This processor is city blocks ahead over the W11 approved Intel Atom and Celeron processors that somehow made it on the W11 realm of supported processors list. In my opinion, Microsoft forcing people to buy new hardware is essentially unethical.

Let's call a spade a spade here, ladies & gentlemen: it's about maximizing profits and minimizing overhead.  In other words, drawing the mostly subjective line to exclude high-end 7th gen Intel processors was purely a calculated business decision.

In the meanwhile, I'm running Windows 11 with the latest 22H2 Version.  Whatever roadblocks Microsoft Inc. may throw at us, some software genius will defeat it.  And then there are of course excellent OS alternatives such as Linux based.
