Omen 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an Omen 17 (CB0050NR) laptop that since I first got it has had random blue screens with the "page fault in nonpaged area" error since I first got it. in February. I ran memory tests, HP's bloatware diagnostics, etc, but no problems were ever found. The usual WIndows Event Viewer info before these crashes shows hpdskflt throwing a bunch of "an unsupported disk adapter was found."

I've long suspected the SD card reader, but I started by removing as much of the HP software as I could and that seemingly did resolve the issue to some extent for a while, then I noticed Windows updates pushing some HP Software updates and it got worse again. By worse I mean daily instead of every 3 to 5 days. Updated the few drivers that had updates, but nothing resolved it.

So I keep an SD card installed for an extra 256GB of space. As a final test, I removed the card after putting all of my files on the C drive... And as I suspected, no more blue screens. The problem with reproduction of this blue screen crash is that it's seemingly random. The only way to reproduce it is to insert an SD card and wait. It could be an hour, it could be a few days. Tried different cards as well and the BSOD errors keep occurring. Doesn't appear to be an issue when used from an external USB card reader, so I'm certain it's the built in card reader and/or the driver associated with it.

Also the current version of the driver (1.1.10) doesn't load the SD card after a reboot. You have to eject it and put it back in after Windows boots.

From google, it seems more common people have an issue of a BSOD directly after inserting an SD card, but my problem isn't that severe. Does seem to hint at these card readers being trash though.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊
