Hello, will a 500 Gb M.2 SSD work properly on this model even though in the manual is just pointed from 128 to 250 Gb as the maximum? I have an Intel Optane 16 Gb in that port, but I'll remove it because of many errors it has been giving me (I have to clear the metadata and link the HDD again almost thrice a week).
I'm planning on buying one of the followings:
1. Samsung 970 EVO 500GB-nvme M.2 2280 SSD PCIe MZ-V7E500BW
2. HP EX950 512GB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe 3.1 x4 nvme 3D 5MS22AA#ABC SSD NAND TLC
Thank you beforehand.

Hello @iFrankv
I would disable Optane in Windows or the bios before removing it. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05591811
Your laptop will support both NVMe and SATA M.2 SSD's. Because of this, the NVMe port will only function at 3x2 speed.
So I would not consider spending a lot on an NVMe drive. But it will still be faster that SATA.
There is no capacity limit on what drive you install. What you choose to purchase is up to you. At the moment of my writing this, Sabrent is a good deal for the money... Link.
You will want to then disconnect the HDD before installing Windows to the SSD to make things much easier.
Then you can wipe the HDD and use it for storage, once you confirm the SSD installation is working.
Your manual... http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05985643
Hope that helps.
