Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

Noticed a scratches inside the circular metal part of the charger pin (the part that connects to the laptop). Charging works fine.

Could this cause damage or reduce the laptop’s lifespan? Should I be concerned?

Hi @Utsav11,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

I understand your concern regarding the scratches inside the connector pin of your charger. Typically, superficial scratches on the metal connector of a charger pin should not cause any significant damage or affect the lifespan of your laptop, as long as the connection remains secure and the charger functions properly. Here are a few things you can consider:

  1. Ensure Secure Connection: If the charger is still connecting securely and charging effectively, the scratches are likely just cosmetic.

  2. Regular Inspection: Keep an eye on the connection to ensure it does not become loose or show signs of further wear. Regular checks can help identify any potential issues early.

  3. Avoid Excessive Force: When connecting or disconnecting the charger, avoid using excessive force to prevent additional wear or damage.

If you notice any issues with charging, like the charger frequently disconnecting or no longer charging, it would be advisable to replace the charger or have it inspected by a professional. If everything is functioning correctly now, there is likely no immediate cause for concern.
