hp pavilion 15-ec0101AX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having an issue with my new pavilion laptop, with NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650, AMD Ryzen 5-3550H processor and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM I am facing serious FPS drops while gaming. (DOTA 2, ROE, Warframe)

The issue goes as follows:

Start game>constant 74fps>sudden frame drop after about half a minute> its 1-5 fps for about 2-4 seconds> game goes back to 74fps> cycle repeats.

things i've tried

- power settings to max performance

-installed new drivers

-set the max processor frequency from my Ryzen 5 to maximum in advanced power settings

I think it might be GPU or some software related issue.

please advise how to fix.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Let's try this:

  2. Search for power, and then click Power Options.

Opening the Power Options in Windows

  3. Select an option under Choose or customize a power plan.

    Selecting a power plan

  4. To customize the selected plan, click Change plan settings, and then select the display and sleep settings when using the battery and when plugged in.

note:To set up a personalized plan, click Create a power plan from list on the left side of the main Power Options window, and then follow the on-screen instructions. The plan displays in the list of available power plans.
  5. To change more power settings, click Change advanced power settings.

Change advanced power settings for more options

  6. Click the plus sign next to the component or function, change the available settings, click Apply, and then click OK.

    Changing the Advanced settings

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, in order to bring your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. I am sending you a private message. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

The factory.  While doing the recovery there is an option to back up your personal files. If you have not previously done one now is a good time.

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
