HP Omen 15 (2020 edition w/ Ryzen)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all! I've been experiencing this issue with my 2020 Omen 15 (Ryzen variation) when I press the left Shift, CTRL, and FN keys.

To clear some things up: the last time I restarted was on April 7, 2021; the last time I updated was also April 7, 2021; this computer is only 5 months old (got it December 2020); I've been having this issue for a few months now; it's specifically on my LEFT Shift key; my keyboard settings are on "Static" lighting.

My keyboard is usually backlit - in today's case it was purple - but when I pressed said keys, the Q, 2, 3, 5, and FN 2-5 buttons would change to a reddish color.
This was perhaps the only consistency I could find: sometimes the lighting would stay purple when I clicked said three keys, sometimes they would keep flickering between red, purple, and mix of the colors, etc.

What I also began to notice was that whenever the Shift stopped doing its thing, the lights would appear to be the same color, but in fact the aforementioned differently-hued keys would be mostly purple, with a slight mixture of red in there.

This is consistent across ALL colors, in which the aforementioned keys would light up basically the "next" color on the wheel. This included purple to red (today's experience), light green to a more blue-green, green to blue, blue to purple, etc.

If someone could tell me a software solution, that'd be greatly appreciated. What'd also be great is a good store to take this into if it is hardware-based (Windows, HP, Staples?)

Thanks!

@Static1

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
