I just bought hp omen max 16 and it has samsung 1tb ssd i side. Unfortunately & surprisingly it maxed out speed is mere 3500 and my 2nd ssd (user installed) wd black 850x is also working at same 3500 speed.
Why are both drives having such slow speed is not understood.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It looks like your HP Omen Max 16 is experiencing slower-than-expected SSD speeds, with both the Samsung 1TB SSD and WD Black 850X maxing out at 3500 MB/s instead of their full Gen 4 potential.
Here are some possible causes and fixes:
Possible Causes
BIOS Settings Limiting PCIe Speeds
- Some HP laptops default to PCIe Gen 3 instead of Gen 4, reducing SSD speeds.
- Check BIOS settings for PCIe Configuration and ensure it’s set to Gen 4.
Thermal Throttling
- If the SSDs are overheating, they may throttle performance.
- Use HWMonitor to check SSD temperatures.
Chipset or Driver Issues
- Ensure your AMD/NVIDIA chipset drivers are up to date.
- Update SSD firmware via Samsung Magician or WD Dashboard.
Windows Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel → Power Options → High Performance Mode.
- Some laptops limit SSD speeds in Balanced Mode to save power.
