Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

Guys I have HP Omen 16 wf-1000, basically i7-14th gen, RTX 4060, 16GB ram and 1TB storage.

The issue I had recently, My battery stopped charging when plugged in.
I disconnected it and ran directly from AC, it works fine. If the battery is charged using some other means, like if I take it out and charge it in another laptop, and put it back in the laptop then it runs fine but as soon as I have both ac and battery plugged in, it does not work.

I don’t know what to do, Belgium does not have any support on call and any service center as well. I really need help.

Something even worse happened, after diagnosis from HP care center, they said I can use my laptop on AC for like a long time with no issues. So I took they took the battery out, and told me to just plug it in with the charger and use.

And so I was doing as they suggested but

within 3 hours, the motherboard fried and I smelled something burning. Like seriously what the actual hell.

The whole laptop in my hand fried, I thought it was a mistake so I plugged it in again but I heard crackling. I took out all the plugs and chargers in my room, and took the laptop and ran to keep it somewhere open in my living room.

I need answers for this, I do not know who is responsible but I need help. This was scary, I am just a college student whose parents are doing as much as they can to provide. And this is what I get?

This is absolutely pathetic, my precious laptop fries in my hand like this while I was working on my college assignment which is just light weight programming.

and I was 4-8mm thickness plastic away from getting a serious injury myself. @HP take some measures and send help.

This is genuinely alarming, and I’m really sorry you had to go through something so serious. A motherboard frying within hours of following HP's own service center advice is unacceptable, especially for a student depending on this for college work. You absolutely deserve clear answers and accountability from HP.

HP, please take this seriously. This isn't just about a damaged device, it’s about customer safety and trust. A potential fire hazard like this needs immediate attention and resolution.

I hope you get proper support and a full replacement ASAP. Stay strong, and please keep us updated.
