Hiya everyone

I have been using HP Omen 15-dh1005na but recently it crashed and since i switched it back on i got a black screen, and the fan runs for a few seconds than stops, it looks like it's just stuck on the first step when i switch it on which is the black screen,

i have tried taking the ac adapter off and the battery off aswell and pressed the power button for upto 30-60 seconds but no luck,

I checked the 2 rams which i took 1 off and tried it in the other slot and started the laptop but still to luck,

I checked the ssd on another computer but that is working nicely so no luck,

I have also downloaded the bios and added the USB stick on the laptop and pressed win key +B and win key+ v separately when started the laptop but still no luck,

It's like the black screen will not go forward from what ever i press or do,

If anyone of you have had this problem or know what to do next please let me know

Thank you

Hello, @Irfan-1

I have some solution it can Hels you.

Hard Reset
Steps:
Disconnect the AC adapter and battery again.
Hold the power button for at least 1-2 minutes to ensure all residual power is drained.
Reconnect the AC adapter only (leave the battery disconnected).
Try turning it on.
2. Check for Beep Codes or Diagnostic LEDs
Listen for any beep codes or observe the keyboard or power LED behavior. These codes or patterns can indicate specific hardware issues. Refer to the HP Support website for decoding these.
3. External Monitor Test
Connect an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort to check if the issue is with the internal display.
If the external display works, it may be an issue with the laptop screen or its connectors.
4. BIOS Recovery Retry
Sometimes BIOS recovery doesn’t work on the first attempt. Here's a refined method:

Download the correct BIOS file for your specific model from the HP Support site.
Format a USB drive to FAT32, place the BIOS file on it, and rename the file if necessary (refer to HP's instructions).
Plug the USB into the laptop.
Hold Windows + B or Windows + V, then press the power button and release it while holding the keys.
Wait for about 1 minute for a BIOS recovery screen.
5. Reset CMOS Battery
If you feel comfortable disassembling your laptop:
Disconnect the main battery and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard (usually a small coin-cell battery).
Disconnect or remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes.
Reconnect the CMOS battery and power on the laptop.
6. Reseat CPU and GPU (Advanced)
Maryland Health Connection gov
If you're comfortable with hardware:
Remove the heatsink to inspect the CPU and GPU.
Reseat the CPU or GPU carefully.
Apply fresh thermal paste and reattach the heatsink.
7. HP Diagnostics USB
HP laptops often support diagnostic tools:

Create an HP Diagnostic USB:
Download HP Diagnostics from another PC.
Boot the USB by pressing Esc or F2 during startup.
Run tests to check for hardware failures.
8. Contact HP Support or Professional Help
If none of the above steps work, the issue might be with:

Motherboard failure.
BIOS corruption beyond recovery.
Power delivery issues.

Best Regards

Hi @Irfan-1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've done a thorough job troubleshooting your HP Omen 15, but the issue persists. This kind of problem could point to a deeper hardware failure or a corrupted firmware. Here’s a structured approach to continue troubleshooting.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB, peripherals, etc.).
  • Remove the battery and AC adapter.
  • Press and hold the power button for 1 minute.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter (without the battery) and try turning it on.

Check for POST (Power-On Self-Test) Beeps or Indicators

  • When powering on the laptop, listen for any beep codes or check for blinking LEDs.
  • Refer to your HP Omen 15’s manual for what these codes indicate (common error codes include memory, motherboard, or display issues).

Reattempt BIOS Recovery

  • Ensure the USB stick with the BIOS file is properly formatted as FAT32.
  • Place the BIOS file in the root directory of the USB (not within folders).
  • Use the following keys when booting:
    • Windows Key + B
    • Windows Key + V
    • Hold the keys and then press the power button.
  • If there’s no response, try a different USB port or USB stick.

Check the Display

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • If the external display works, the issue could be with the internal screen or its connection.

Inspect the Hardware

  • RAM: Since you’ve tested the RAM, ensure both modules and slots are dust-free. Test the laptop with one RAM stick in each slot.
  • CMOS Battery: Reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for a few minutes, then reinserting it.
  • Motherboard: Inspect for visible damage, burnt components, or loose connections.
  • Cooling System: Ensure the fan spins freely without obstruction.

Advanced Options

  • Replace the RAM with Known Working Modules: Try new or known-good RAM sticks.
  • Check the GPU: If your Omen 15 has a dedicated GPU, it could be failing. Some models allow switching to integrated graphics via a BIOS setting.
  • Service Diagnostics: Some HP laptops support hardware diagnostics accessible via the Esc or F2 key at startup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

UPDATE

Hiya

I have tried 1, 3, 4 but no luck

With point 2 i get 5 long blink and 3 fast blink,

Point 5 i don't think i have cmos on my motherboard,

Point 6 i had a look at cpu and gpu but didn't find anything bad what i tried was switching the power on and both cpu and gpu both warm up which explained that they are working, if neither one was dead than it wouldn't warm up,

Point 7 i couldn't do that because the laptop will not open, i can see the light coming on on the usb drive for like 2 seconds and stops,

Hi @Irfan-1,

Thank you for your response,

Since you've already tried several basic troubleshooting steps, here's a set of advanced troubleshooting actions you can try.

Clear CMOS/Reset BIOS

  • You mentioned you don’t think you have a CMOS battery on your motherboard, but some laptops use a soldered-in coin cell battery. If possible, locate the CMOS battery and remove it for a few minutes. If it's not removable, look for a reset jumper on the motherboard.
  • This action helps reset BIOS settings, potentially resolving any corrupted firmware.

Inspect the RAM and Slots Thoroughly

  • Even if you’ve already checked the RAM, test each module separately in each slot to rule out the possibility of a defective RAM stick or motherboard slot.
  • Use compressed air to blow out any dust or debris from the RAM slots to ensure proper contact.

Test with Known-Good RAM and GPU

  • If you have access to known working RAM sticks, test them in your laptop.
  • If your laptop has a dedicated GPU, remove it (if possible) and test the system using the integrated GPU, if available.

Try a BIOS Recovery via USB Stick Again

  • It sounds like your BIOS recovery attempt failed. Double-check the following:
    • Ensure the USB stick is formatted correctly (FAT32).
    • Make sure the BIOS file is placed directly in the root directory of the USB stick (not in any folder).
    • Attempt the recovery process using Windows + B or Windows + V while powering the device on.
    • Use a different USB stick and a different USB port (preferably a USB 2.0 port).

Check the Motherboard for Physical Damage

  • With the laptop disassembled, inspect the motherboard for visible damage, burnt marks, or loose connections. Check the power delivery components, including the power jack and connectors, as well as the CPU and GPU connections.

External Display Check

  • Since you’ve already tried a different monitor, double-check the connection to ensure it is firmly connected and working. If an external monitor works but the laptop screen remains black, there may be an issue with the internal display or its connection.

Service Diagnostics

  • On HP laptops, you can run hardware diagnostics by pressing the Esc or F2 key repeatedly immediately after powering on. This could give you a more detailed understanding of the problem.
  • If you see any error codes during the diagnostics, it might indicate the specific hardware part that’s malfunctioning (e.g., motherboard, CPU, GPU).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
