I cannot access the Support assistant because each time I go to download it, it throws a 'not found' error. Seeing as how this is supposed to be how I get my machine's serial number with a stick screw, this has been a significant barrier to getting support.

I am at a loss for what to do to get it. I just anted to check my drivers with it! I can't even e-mail support because they don't have anything for their *website*.

Website download is not working.

I've just finished reporting it.

There is no guarantee of a rapid response - we are not part of internal HP.

Your ire is noted.

If you can log into your computer,

Another method to get the serial number in Windows

Open a command prompt window with Admin privileges:

Windows key + X +

Type this command:

wmic bios get serialnumber

Welcome to the HP English Community --

If the computer is functional, that is, it boots and you can log in,

You do not need the Support Assistant to find the serial number.

In Windows

ESC key

OR

FN + ESC Key

Sample

FN_ESC_System_Information_2FN_ESC_System_Information_2

Find product and serial numbers for HP PCs, printers, and accessories

Never post serial number or any private information in the Community – we are a public resource.

What else?

  • If you purchased the device from HP, check the email containing the confirmation / shipping information.
  • If you have it, Check the Box - or, if you saved it, check the shipping label from the shipping box.
  • Check the back or underside side of the computer

Well, firstly, that doesn't fix the website not actually having the download working, but also if that worked I wouldn't be needing to follow the help instructions that then tell you to use the support assistant. It doesn't do anything.

Sorry I do not mean to be short with you I have also just had a molar removed and I am finding it difficult to sit and write. I do appreciate your time and thank you for the alternative methods.

You are welcome.

Meh - I had no reason to snap back -- we take a lot of abuse and generally we just ignore it.

Hang in there -- from what I'm told, it takes a couple of days to start to feel like "self" again.

I did not feel snapped at, merely made aware of my own behavior. An explaination is not an excuse and it was not ok to behave that way - thank you again for your help, it is appreciated.
