Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

I went on my laptop but it showed.a message saying

The system has detected that a cooling fan is not operating correctly.

Continued operation of the computer is not recommended by HP and might cause unpredictable behavior that can result in a shutdown, data loss, or computer damage. The computer will shut down in 15 seconds. To prevent the shutdown and continue operation, press the Enter key now,

System Fan (90B)

ENTER - Continue Startup

For more information, please visit the website I googled a few ways how to try fix it bc you can still hear it just very low  but don’t know if it could be caused by my brother bc he was working himself and spilt red bull on it that was ages ago

I got someone to see it the fan has completely gave up / died due to dust  and there is a little bit of corrosion that’s been there for a while so they said when they are replacing the fan they will clear it out and to keep powered off / don’t use but can’t get it done until after Christmas and new year bc waiting on the part to come in as it had to be ordered they says the corrosion has been there for awhile and most likely be fine, says once cleaned and the fan has been replaced the laptop should function as normal

Hi @Lillyyy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop is showing a System Fan (90B) error and warning that the cooling fan is not operating correctly. Let’s go through a few steps to understand what’s causing this and how to handle it safely.

Power off the laptop immediately
Continued use without proper cooling can cause overheating, shutdowns, or internal damage.
Keep the system powered off until the fan issue is resolved.

Check if the fan is physically spinning
If the fan sound is very low or inconsistent, it usually indicates a failing or seized fan.
This aligns with the 90B error detected during startup.

Inspect for dust buildup and airflow blockage
Heavy dust accumulation can prevent the fan from spinning at normal speed.
Blocked vents can also trigger this error even if the fan is partially working.

Consider past liquid exposure
Liquid spills, even if they happened a long time ago, can cause corrosion over time.
Corrosion may affect the fan motor or its power connection, leading to failure.

Do not override the shutdown repeatedly
Pressing Enter to continue startup bypasses a safety feature.
This should only be done briefly if absolutely necessary, not for regular use.

Replace the cooling fan
A confirmed failed fan must be replaced, as software fixes will not resolve this error.
Cleaning the internal components during replacement helps prevent future issues.

Keep the device unused until repair is completed
Waiting for the replacement part while keeping the laptop powered off is the safest option.
Once the fan is replaced and corrosion cleaned, normal operation should resume.

I hope this helps.

Yh the fan died bc of dust and never been changed in the 2 years I have had it for and the corrosion is not much it’s only in one area and doesn’t seem to have moved within the time it’s been there the computer shop did say it should all work as normal when its cleaned and the fan is replaced witch will all be done after Christmas and the new year
