Hi, I have an hp gaming laptop it is an hp pavilion 15-ec1050ax. A while ago the motherboard broke down I took it too the official service centre and they changed the motherboard with one that has an rtx3050 and an and r5 5600h also I got the memory upgraded from 8gb to 32gb. When I play games the frame rate seems normal and everything goes smooth but suddenly the frames drop for a few second and then it is back to normal again. I play on an external monitor connected through hdmi so it can’t be the integrated graphics kicking in and regardless of weather I play on a monitor or not the situation is the same. The temperature seems fine as while under load the cpu gets up to 80 degrees Celsius and the gpu doesn’t go above 70 degrees Celsius. I checked in task manager and observed that when the frames drop the clock speed of the cpu goes down to 0.40Ghz and it’s utilisation also drops, the gpu utilisation also drops. I have noticed that this happenes more often in games such as Fortnite and happens more often when I am playing at 1080p (my monitor is 1440p). Please help me fix this as this is really annoying.

Your motherboard was upgraded and the documentation does not match the model. You should have
Hard drive |
|
If the game was fully installed on the SSD then that is the best option.
If it cannot fit then the database should go on the HDD and the game executable code on the NVME
Check your HDD to see if it is 7200 or 5400 rpm with the command
wmic /namespace:\\root\microsoft\windows\storage path msft_disk get Model,BusType |
Then lookup the model name to find the speed. The ST2000DM006-2DM164 is 7200rpm
The Sabrent Rocket nano is old and could be upgrade but it is fast enough for me.
The CPU speed drops when it is idle and I am guessing it is idle as it is waiting for the imagery data to be transferred.
You can edit your power plan and force the minimum speed to be %100 if you want. Maybe that might help

The games are installed on the hard drive. It is a WDC WD10SPSX-60A6WT0 which is a 7200rpm hard drive. I checked the health status of the drive in CrystalDiskInfo and it says that is in a good condition so i doubt that it is the hard drive. Also I had set my power plan to ultimate performance which had the same settings as you showed in the image.

Your motherboard was replaced so it is not easy to find the exact problem.
Does you SSD have Optane memory? Optane is used to increase performance of HDD.
Enter "intel rapid storage" into the windows search tab and run the iastore app.
If you have Optane memory it will show up.
If you do not have Optane memory you could
1 - replace the HDD with any quality 7mm SSD*** . Any SSD will outperform an HDD
A typical 7200 RPM HDD (without Optane) will deliver a read/write speed of 80-160MB/s. On the other hand, a standard SATA SSD will provide a read/write speed of between 200 MB/s to 550 MB/
2 - Replace your current SSD NVME with a 1tb. If your current NVME has a heat sink (copper cover) then it needs to be put on the new one. NVME larger than 1tb run hot and need a heat sink. If you buy one with a heat sink it is likely not to fit as the HP heat sinks for NVME are designed to fit in the laptop. Just use the old heat sink on the new NVME>
Before doing any of the above try installing the game on the NVME to see if the problem disappears.
It is possible to replace NVME that has optane with a larger NVME but that may cause the HDD to lose some performance. The tradeoff is you might be able to fit everything on the NVME. Some NVME upgrades, especially the high performance gaming NVME's can have problems on HP laptops and your motherboard replacement makes it difficult to recommend a particular NVME. I do not know if you have Gen3 or Gen4 motherboard and that make a big difference.
*** I am guessing you need a 7mm. Please post the results of the wmic to find what disks you have
wmic /namespace:\\root\microsoft\windows\storage path msft_disk get Model,BusType

Hi, so as you might know that i have 2 drives one is the HDD which is the WDC WD10SPSX-60A6WT0 on which the game was earlier installed and the other drive is the SSD which is the SAMSUNG MZVLB256HBHQ-000H1 which is only 256GB so i hadn't installed the game on it earlier. I downloaded Fortnite (a game on which the issue occurred the most) on the SSD and found out that the situation had not changed a bit so it is not the drive. it still stuttered randomly for a few seconds then back to normal. i do not have Optane memory, It may be because i have an AMD processor or for other reasons. Also you asked for the results of the wmic so here they are:

Thanks, I just wanted to know the quality of the NVME and that Samsung is excellent. Its performance is better than the WD Blue NVME I recommend.
There is a discussion about stuttering here that you might want to look into
https://www.reddit.com/r/FortNiteBR/comments/12halvz/this_is_why_fortnite_stutters_and_freezes/
The texture switch seems to cause the stuttering and in inherent in the game design. Possibly the only solution is to lower the refresh and resolution.

The issue occurs in other games as well. And I do not want to lower my resolution from 1920x1080. If possible please share other solutions.
one thing that might be possible is that I am in the windows insider program dev Channel and that might be causing an issue. Or it may be a hardware issue.
I don’t know weather it is an software or a hardware issue

The most recent "game ready" driver for any of the RTX-3050 chips is Version: 546.33 - Release: Dec 12, 2023
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/
NVidia updates can be as often as weekly as new games come out. You can try that driver but it might have problems on your laptop as HP packages changes to NVIdia release to tailor to laptops screen type.
Since you have a new motherboard you do not have the original 15-ec1050ax and looking up parts can get wrong answer.
What does the HP Support Assistant say for the model and product number including the 3 letters after the # sign on the product ID?
