This problem is not significant for me (I mainly use a wired mouse), but still. In the settings, I have already checked the touchpad several times and the lock is not enabled either (f11 + fn). When I press the key combination to lock, it is displayed on the screen and vice versa, when I turn it on, it is also displayed on the screen.

Hi @Taňa,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your touchpad isn’t working despite checking the settings and the lock key status, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Device Manager:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
  • Look for the touchpad entry (it might be listed as "Synaptics," "ELAN," or something similar).
  • Right-click on it and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • If there’s an option to Uninstall device, do that and then restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Reinstall Touchpad Drivers:

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest touchpad drivers for your specific model.
  • Install the drivers and restart your laptop.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Sometimes, a system update might fix hardware issues.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc, F2, or F10 during startup).
  • Look for touchpad settings in the BIOS and ensure that the touchpad is enabled.

Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • HP laptops usually come with built-in diagnostics. Restart your laptop and press Esc to enter the startup menu. Choose F2 to run hardware diagnostics and test the touchpad.

Check for Physical Issues:

  • Ensure that nothing is physically obstructing or pressing against the touchpad.
  • Clean the touchpad gently with a soft, dry cloth.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, the touchpad might be malfunctioning due to a hardware problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
