Hello, I have an HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2xxx laptop. When the CPU temperature reaches 75 degrees, the frequency decreases. How can I disable this or increase it to a higher number?17435011878527822190946606256339.jpg

Hi @kian12

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2xxx laptop is likely throttling the CPU frequency to prevent overheating and protect the hardware. This behavior is controlled by the system's thermal management settings.

Here are some steps to address the issue:

1. Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. Visit the HP Support page for your laptop model to download the latest updates.
  • BIOS updates often include improvements to thermal management.

2. Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance.
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Under Processor Power Management, set the Maximum Processor State to 100% and the Minimum Processor State to a higher value (e.g., 50%).

3. Disable Turbo Boost:

  • Disabling Intel Turbo Boost can prevent the CPU from reaching higher temperatures:
    • Open Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced Settings.
    • Look for Processor Performance Boost Mode and set it to Disabled.

4. Improve Cooling:

  • Ensure the laptop's vents are clean and unobstructed.
  • Use a cooling pad to improve airflow and reduce temperatures.
  • Consider repasting the CPU with high-quality thermal paste if the laptop is older.
