When I search for Synaptics on windows and try to open it, the following message appears: Unable to connect to Synaptics Pointing Device Driver - If you have installed another ps 2 pointing device driver please uninstall the synaptics by using the yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driverfor your external device again.
I think that is the problem.

Let's try these steps -
1.) Press Windows + R, type “taskmgr” in the dialogue box and press Enter.
2.) Once in the task manager, select the Startup tab and locate Synaptics service from the list. Right-click on it and select Properties.
3.) Now click on Compatibility and check the option “Run this program as an administrator”.
4.) Restart your computer and try installing the driver again.

Hi Vera, could you please try creating a new user account and check if the scroll works -
1. Tap the Windows icon.
2. Select Settings.
3. Tap Accounts.
4. Select Family & other users.
5. Tap "Add someone else to this PC."
6. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
7. Select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
8. Enter a username, type the account's password twice, enter a clue and select Next.
9. Tap the Windows icon.
10. Select the User icon at the upper left corner of the Start menu.
11. Select the new user. You'll then sign into your account with your password from step 8.

Hello @Asmita6658,
It also does not work on the new user account.
Do you think I should try to restore Windows?
Because is a new computer, I have very few things on it.
So maybe it is easier, considering that nothing worked.
Thank you,
Vera

Hi Vera. Yes, we can try re-installing the operating system.
Back-up the data and try these steps -
1. Shutdown the computer.
2. Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3. Press F11 once for System Recovery.
4. Choose the Keyboard Layout.
5. Click on Troubleshoot.
6. Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Recovery.
Note : Back-up all your data as System Recovery will delete everything that you had saved or installed on the computer.
Let me know.

@deFerran That's good, here'w what you need to do:
Touchpads are generally more customizable, and that is quite evident from the number of settings they are available with. You can configure everything including gestures, taps, sensitivity and even the scrolling direction. To reverse existing scrolling direction, follow these steps:
- Open Settings (Win + I) and then go to Devices.
- Now select Touchpad from the left menu.
- Find a setting called Scrolling Direction.
- Click on the drop-down and select the desired setting. For same direction scrolling, select Downwards motion scrolls down. Or select the other one for the opposite result.
The settings will be applied instantly, and you will be able to recognize the change. It is quite simple to change scrolling settings for a touchpad, but it is not the case for mice.
If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
