Hello,

 

The trackpad on my Omen laptop has been busted for quite some time. It is not physically broken. I have had it serviced once and the entire trackpad was replaced but the issue shortly returned. Basically, only portions of my trackpad will function. For example if I move the cursor in a circle, it will make it around about halfway before stopping. The strangest thing is that if I disable the trackpad for a moment with F11, then enable it again, the entire trackpad will work, however briefly. If I physically click the trackpad at any moment it will cease working entirely unless I disable and re-enable it.

 

All of my drivers are up to date and the OS is updated to the latest version as well.

 

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a software or firmware-related issue rather than a physical defect. Since your trackpad worked briefly after being disabled and re-enabled, it suggests the hardware is fine, but there might be a conflict or glitch with the drivers or system settings.

 

Here are a few steps you can try.


Reinstall Trackpad Drivers:

  • Even though your drivers are up to date, sometimes reinstalling them can fix any hidden issues. Go to Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices, right-click on your trackpad, and choose Uninstall device. Restart the laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

Check Touchpad Settings in BIOS:

  • Sometimes touchpad issues can be managed at the BIOS level. Restart your laptop and press the BIOS access key (usually Esc, F10, or F2). Look for any touchpad-related settings (like "Internal Pointing Device" or "Trackpad"), and make sure it’s enabled. You can also try resetting BIOS to default settings and see if that helps.

Disable "Hide pointer while typing":

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad, and turn off the option for "Hide pointer while typing." This can occasionally cause the pointer to stop functioning in certain conditions.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Sometimes, third-party software like mouse/keyboard management tools or certain performance-enhancing programs can interfere with the trackpad. Try booting your laptop in Safe Mode and see if the trackpad issue persists. If it works fine in Safe Mode, it might be due to software conflicts.

Test in a New User Profile:

  • Create a new Windows user profile to see if the issue is specific to your current user account. This will help determine if it’s a settings issue or a broader system issue.
