Hi @Mreith1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your laptop trackpad is not responding after reinstalling Windows, it could indeed be a driver-related issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.
Device Manager:
- Open the Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
- Look for the "Mice and other pointing devices" category.
- Check if your trackpad is listed. If there's a yellow triangle or exclamation mark next to it, it indicates a driver issue.
Update or Reinstall Trackpad Driver:
- Right-click on the trackpad entry in the Device Manager and select "Update driver" or "Uninstall device."
- If you choose to update the driver, select the option to search automatically for updated driver software.
- If you uninstall the driver, restart your laptop, and Windows may automatically reinstall the driver. Alternatively, you can visit the website to download and install the latest trackpad driver.
Windows Update:
- Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date by running Windows Update. Sometimes, important driver updates are included in Windows updates.
Manufacturer's Website:
- Visit the official HP website and navigate to the support or driver download section.
- Locate and download the latest trackpad driver for your specific laptop model.
BIOS/UEFI Update:
- Check if there's a BIOS or UEFI firmware update available for your laptop on the HP website. Sometimes, updates can address hardware compatibility issues.
Function Key:
- Some laptops have a function key (e.g., F3 or F7) that toggles the touchpad on/off. Make sure it's not disabled by pressing the corresponding key.
System Restore:
- If the issue started after a recent change or update, you might consider using System Restore to revert your system to a point where the trackpad was working.
Remember to back up important data before making significant changes to your system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
