OMEN by HP 15-dh0145tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey guys, need a little help here. It's about my laptop's usb c port charging output.
I'm using HP Omen 15-dh0145tx which supports Thunderbolt 3 and usb c charging output. When I use it to connect my phone (charging and data) or my portable monitor (not thunderbolt, but requires external power), often the whole system will heavily throttle down to a near-freeze situation. Unplugging from the usb c continues to lag of the entire system and had to be restarted.

I made sure all windows updates, drivers and bios are all updated to the latest version. I didn't use the usb c as much when using previous versions of bios, but upon having the latest installed only then I use it quite often.

I also did undervolt my cpu to -0.100v, not sure if this is a partial factor...

Thanks!

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Next ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Also run the System Test to ensure the Hardware Functionality

- Shut down the Notebook completely

- Turn it back on, then tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup menu screen is displayed.

- Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.

- Click System Tests, then click Extensive Test.

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

I've updated all drivers/ Windows updates to their latest versions. I couldn't see the "System Tests" option. There's Memory Test, Storage Tests, Hard Drive Check, Language and Exit.

Just to clarify, it's hard to explain but basically whenever I use the USB C port for external charging, the whole system's framerate drops to near-freeze scenario. Restarting the system solves the issue, but this happens quite often that it's been bothering me for a while.

I've tried downgrading to older Nvidia driver/s and using different cables. Nothing work...

Thanks!

This might require remote access to your computer to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Cheers.
