Hi @UNKNNOWN,

I'm glad to hear that you're now able to access the BIOS successfully.

To disable Virtualization Technology (AMD-V/SVM) on your HP OMEN 16, Kindly follow these simple steps:

  1. Restart the notebook and repeatedly tap F10 to enter the BIOS.
  2. Navigate to Advanced or System Configuration (the exact menu name may vary by BIOS version).
  3. Locate Virtualization Technology (SVM Mode).
  4. Change the setting to Disabled.
  5. Press F10 to save the changes and exit.

After Windows starts:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select the Performance tab and click CPU.
  3. Check the Virtualization status. It should display Disabled.

Hi Deep_World,

I have tried these steps 2 to 3 times after solving the BIOS issue, but it still shows enabled in Task Manager and System Info. Even though I disable Virtualization Technology (SVM Mode) in the BIOS, it continues to show as enabled once Windows starts.

Since I have spent a significant amount of time attempting this without any success, I request that you arrange a technical engineer or connect me with customer service to resolve this issue.

Regards

Hi @UNKNNOWN

Thank you for the update.

I understand that you have already disabled SVM Mode in the BIOS several times and that Windows continues to report Virtualization: Enabled in both Task Manager and System Information.

As mentioned earlier, some HP platforms may continue to use hardware virtualization when security features such as Virtualization-Based BIOS Protection or other virtualization-based security technologies are enabled.

In such cases, disabling SVM alone may not result in Windows reporting virtualization as disabled.

Please check the BIOS for any available settings related to:

  • Virtualization-Based BIOS Protection
  • BIOS Sure Start or firmware protection features that reference virtualization
  • Other virtualization-based security options

After making any changes, save the BIOS settings, restart the system, and verify the status again in Windows.

If SVM remains disabled in BIOS and virtualization continues to appear enabled, it may indicate platform-specific behavior related to the notebook's security architecture rather than a failure of the SVM setting itself.

Please let us know:

  • Whether Virtualization-Based BIOS Protection is currently enabled or disabled.
  • Whether the BIOS now consistently shows SVM as Disabled after rebooting.
  • The output from msinfo32 under "Virtualization-based Security."

This information will help determine whether the virtualization status reported by Windows is being maintained by firmware security features or another Windows security component.

Hi Hawks_Eye,

Thank you for your response. I have repeatedly disabled SVM Mode in the BIOS and confirmed that it remains Disabled after rebooting, but Windows still reports Virtualization: Enabled in both Task Manager and System Information. In msinfo32, Virtualization-Based Security is shown as Running, and Windows reports that a hypervisor has been detected. I have also tried disabling Windows virtualization-related settings, including setting hypervisorlaunchtype to Off and changing the relevant VBS registry setting, but the issue persists. I have spent a considerable amount of time following troubleshooting steps, and I cannot spend any more time trying additional solutions on my own.

Could you please arrange for a technical engineer or an HP Care Support representative to assist me directly and help resolve this issue? I would appreciate hands-on technical assistance rather than continuing with more troubleshooting steps.

Thank you for your understanding. I look forward to your help.
