Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-d0000 (2V8V2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I just got my laptop today on the 6th of August 2022, I have been personalizing my laptop with a wallpaper and wanted to change my lock screen wallpaper too. When I clicked on personalize lock screen, I come upon a message above the button that says "Some of these settings are managed by your organization", and I am unable to change my lock screen wallpaper. This laptop is an ex-display at a well known retailer, so I'm thinking its on a certain settings still, even though he reset it in front of me. So my question is, how do I fix it so I have free control?

Hello @WhiteWallaby

The restrictions come from <Domain Based Group Policy> or <Local Group Policy> settings.

(1) Edit Local Policy.

  1. Run gpedit.msc

  2. Go this path "Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization".

  3. Disable the GP "Force a specific default lock screen image".

  4. Click OK.

(2) Reboot and test again ...

Hello, that doesn't work for me. When I type gpesit.msc in RUN, it says it doesn't exist.

Hello @WhiteWallaby

There are too many limitations ( policies of the previous owner [company] ) in Windows ...

Recommendation and solution

I would reinstall the system to get a clean state so you have full control !

(1) HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10

( It includes all software and drivers from HP. It corresponds to the original software delivery )

Right-tap the lower-left corner on the desktop to open the Quick Access Menu, and open Run CMD. Type gpedit msc in the Command Prompt window and hit Enter. Find and open the setting named Prevent changing lock screen image.

The person above you has already suggested that. It doesn't work on my victus laptop.
