HP Spectre x360 - 15t-df100 CTO

Dear HP Support Team,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to seek urgent assistance regarding my HP Spectre laptop, My laptop is currently encountering critical issues, and I require guidance on performing a factory reset.

Model: HP Spectre  Processor: Intel Core i7, 9th Gen RAM: 16 GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1065 Boot Mode: Legacy

The problem I am facing is that my laptop is unable to boot into Windows, and I have tried accessing the factory reset options through the Advanced Startup Options and Command Prompt without success. The commands such as reset and systemreset are not recognized in the Command Prompt.

I have a preference for using Legacy Boot mode, and I suspect this might be contributing to the difficulty in initiating a factory reset. Despite multiple attempts, I have been unable to resolve the issue using the available troubleshooting steps.

I have considered creating Windows 11 Installation Media and performing a clean install or repair; however, I would appreciate your guidance on the most appropriate course of action for my HP Spectre laptop.

To provide you with more details:

  • The laptop only runs on Legacy Boot mode.
  • I have attempted to access the Advanced Startup Options, but the system prompts me to "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."
  • The reset and systemreset commands in Command Prompt are not recognized.

I understand the importance of the information on my laptop and would like to proceed with the factory reset without compromising any data. I am reaching out to HP Support for your expert advice and step-by-step guidance on resolving this issue.

I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and would be grateful if you could provide detailed instructions or any tools necessary for the successful execution of the factory reset on my HP Spectre.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response.

Best regards,

Hi @KarimSadeg

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Thank you for reaching out to HP Support regarding the critical issues you're experiencing with your HP Spectre X360 - 15t-Df100 CTO laptop. We understand the importance of resolving this matter promptly and ensuring the safety of your data.

Based on the details provided, it seems like you've encountered challenges initiating a factory reset due to the inability to boot into Windows and the limitations posed by Legacy Boot mode. We'll guide you through the steps to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Prepare Windows 11 Installation Media

Given that your laptop is not booting into Windows and the factory reset options are inaccessible, creating Windows 11 Installation Media will allow you to perform a clean install or repair the operating system. Please follow these instructions to create Windows 11 Installation Media on a separate working computer:

  1. Visit the official Microsoft website to download the Windows 11 Installation Media creation tool.
  2. Insert a USB flash drive with at least 8GB of storage capacity into the working computer.
  3. Run the Windows 11 Installation Media creation tool and follow the on-screen instructions to create the installation media on the USB flash drive.

Step 2: Boot from Windows 11 Installation Media

Once you have created the Windows 11 Installation Media, follow these steps to boot from it on your HP Spectre laptop:

  1. Insert the USB flash drive containing the Windows 11 Installation Media into a USB port on your HP Spectre laptop.
  2. Restart the laptop and repeatedly press the appropriate key (usually F12, F10, or Esc) to access the boot menu.
  3. From the boot menu, select the USB flash drive as the boot device and press Enter to proceed.

Step 3: Perform a Clean Install or Repair

Once you have successfully booted from the Windows 11 Installation Media, you'll have the option to perform a clean install or repair the operating system. Here are the steps for each option:

Clean Install: If you choose to perform a clean install, you'll need to follow the on-screen instructions to format the existing partitions and install a fresh copy of Windows 11. Please note that this will erase all data on the laptop, so be sure to back up any important files before proceeding.

Repair: If you prefer to repair the existing Windows installation, select the repair option from the Windows 11 Installation Media menu. Follow the prompts to attempt repairs to the operating system without losing your files.

Step 4: Follow On-Screen Instructions

Throughout the clean install or repair process, carefully follow the on-screen instructions to complete the procedure. Once finished, your HP Spectre laptop should be restored to a working state, and you should be able to boot into Windows without any issues.
