Omen HP 15-dc1005na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, would greatly appreciate any help on this.

Just recently received this new HP Omen 15 dc1005na and from day one I've been having issues with download speeds, both on wifi and when connected directly to my router via ethernet. Anything I'm downloading, games or movies, etc won't break above 8mb/s. I've updated all network drivers, deleted and re-installed the wifi adapter but no luck. My broadband should be getting over 50mb/s and I've tested this on a desktop via ethernet and my Xbox over wifi, both achieve well over 45mb/s.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? From looking around on the net, most HP omens should have a Realtek adapter but mine looks to be an Intel AC 9560. Could this be the issue?

Hello @Cmurdock89

Im not sure what could be the issue.

From what you've said, sounds like a program is limiting your download speeds possibly. I'm not sure what that would be though.

If you open the Task Manager and click once on the Network column to list the highest to lowest percentages, is there something there taking up bandwidth besides your browser?

Open your browser and run a speed test with a site like Speedtest.net. Does it also show your download speeds not performing well as they should?

If it is not performing correctly in your browser,  leave the browser open and run the Omen Command Center and click on Network Booster. Set the Mode to Custom and find your browser in the list. Make it HIGH priority and everything else blocked. Run Speedtest again. What happens?

Thanks for the reply!
It definitely sounds like something is stopping the full download, but after carrying out some of your recommended actions I'm more confused.

In the above pics, the network stats show download speeds of over 50mb/s, but in the actual program, it never gets above 8mb/s and takes an age to get anywhere. Tested on 2 different applications, Steam, and Battle Net.

Speed tests carried out while not downloading anything show great speeds, exactly what I'd expect:

But whenever I start to download anything, and it's showing as only 7-8mb/s, speed tests give the below results:

I've no idea what's causing this, as the stats show it should be downloading with no issues yet the applications are definitely not downloading anywhere close to what they should be.

In regards to Omen command centre, it's showing as receiving a decent DL rate of 50+mb/s, though interestingly when I look at Network Booster it saying I'm not connected to the internet when I am.

I'm really at a loss as to what it could be.

Oh I see. With the exception of the Omen Command Center being screwed up, everything you show is absolutely normal that I can tell.

Your browsers speed test shows high when ran by itself, but goes way down while downloading a game or game updates. Mine does this exact same thing.

And the OCC shows my total bandwidth at my rated ISP speed while Im downloading a game. But the game itself (APEX in Origin) only  shows its downloading at around 8MB/s.

These were screen shot about the same time.

Steam download give me the same speeds like yours is showing also. The actual speed the file is pushed at is not going to be the same as your total ISP rated speed. There are so many factors in the pipeline that reduce the speed.

So I don't know that I can help you much on this one. I have the same speeds as yours on two different computers.

As far as the OCC is concerned, You might try uninstalling it, rebooting and reinstalling from the MS Store. Should be version 8.2.10.  Then go to Windows updates and force it to search for updates. Even if it already shows its up to date, click the Check for updates button and let it do its thing. Usually that's all that's needed to fix the OCC.

Let me know if that helps.

I know this is an old post but you are confusing megabits and megabytes. See, a megabit is what internet speed tests often use to show how fast it is. A megabit is 1/8 of a megabyte. So 1/8 of 60 megabits is 7.5 megabytes. Hopefully this solved your problem if you haven't yet.
