Good morning, I've exactly the problem over this post My victus fan is almost always on even when turned off from ... - HP Support Community - 9077791: since I bought this notebook, I sadly noticed it performed a lot of noise.
I never had a gaming laptop, so I thought such behaviour could be related with the heavy GPU NVidia RTX3060 installed on the laptop, at that time, two years ago, one of the best GPUs on the market for notebooks.
I tried to play with the settings in the BIOS and in the HP Omen Gaming Hub application, but I've been unfortunate since the beginning.
In the average I'm satisfied with the product, it performs what it's supposed to do, but such high noise with the normal/idle use has ever been disturbing for the other people in the family.
Since I recently noticed in an electronic store that the exposed models from other gaming brands weren't performing the same, I've started to think to a change.
Have others been able to solve permanently such problem with their Victus?
Thank you for your help.

Hi @LordDeCler,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The high fan noise in the Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop is a known concern among users, especially for those new to gaming laptops. This behavior often stems from aggressive cooling profiles set to prioritize performance and protect high-performance hardware like the NVIDIA RTX 3060.
Here are some steps to address the issue.
Update BIOS and Drivers
- BIOS Update: Ensure your BIOS is up-to-date. HP often releases updates that improve thermal management.
- Visit the HP Support website to check for updates specific to your model.
- Driver Update: Update your NVIDIA GPU drivers and chipset drivers through:
- NVIDIA's website.
- HP Support Assistant for system-specific drivers.
Adjust Power Settings
- Windows Power Plan:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select a power plan like Balanced or create a custom plan.
- Limit the Processor Maximum State to around 85-90% under advanced power settings to reduce heat generation.
- HP Omen Gaming Hub:
- Use the Performance Control feature to set the laptop to Quiet Mode or Balanced Mode during non-intensive use.
Modify Fan Settings in HP Omen Gaming Hub
- Thermal Profile Adjustment:
- Open the HP Omen Gaming Hub.
- Go to the Thermal section and select a less aggressive cooling profile, like Quiet Mode.
- Save your settings and monitor the noise levels.
Clean and Maintain the Laptop
- Over time, dust can accumulate, causing fans to work harder.
- Use compressed air to gently clean the vents and fans.
- If you're comfortable, open the laptop (following HP's disassembly guidelines) to clean internal components.
Consider Undervolting the CPU
Undervolting reduces the voltage supplied to the CPU, lowering heat generation and fan activity:
- Tools like ThrottleStop or Intel XTU can be used.
- Proceed cautiously, as undervolting can affect stability if done incorrectly.

Thermal Paste Replacement
After two years, the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU might have degraded:
- Replacing it with a high-quality thermal paste (like Arctic MX-4) can significantly improve thermal performance.
- This should be done by a professional unless you're confident in performing this task.
Evaluate the Environment
- Ensure the laptop is used on a flat, hard surface to allow proper airflow.
- Avoid using the laptop in warm environments or on soft surfaces like beds.
Alternative Cooling Solutions
- Use a laptop cooling pad to improve airflow and reduce fan workload.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden, sorry for the late in answering you.
I tried to update BIOS, graphic card and chipset drivers, but the laptop still stays a bit noisy.
I find a bit disappointing to change maximum CPU or fan rate from the default values, as in theory the laptop should work at its maximum capability when running games.
Laptop has been cleaned and I tried to change its CPU thermal paste.
I normally use the laptop on a desk, without a cooling pad, as for now it doesn't seem to have problems of overheating.
Still, my issues are about the "casual" use or even the normal standby without games or other ongoing applications.
Is this "problem" common to other gaming models from HP?
Thank you for your help
