Want to upgrade the Storage with Samsung NVMe 990 pro m.2 SSD - 1TB.

Laptop Model: HP Pavilion - 15-bc407tx

CPU: Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8300H

I see a slot - M.2 is available.

So, I want to make sure before buying the Samsung NVMe 990 pro SSD, that my Laptop will support it or not. can it improves the laptop performence, if not which SSD would be the best for my laptop.

Hi:

Yes, the notebook will support a NVMe SSD, but the slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0, so the Samsung PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds.

Here's a recent discussion where someone installed a NVMe SSD in a 15-bc4xx notebook.

now i'm confused

can tell me in detail

I don't understand what detail you want.

The slot in your notebook is PCIe gen 3.0.

The Samsung 990 NVMe is PCIe gen 4.0.

The Samsung 990 drive will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speed from a PCIe gen 3.0 slot.

The fastest speed you can get from a NVMe SSD out of a PCIe gen 3.0 slot is around 3,500 MBPS.

Since the cost difference between a Gen 3.0 and Gen 4.0 NVMe is no longer huge, you may just want to buy the 990 Pro and transfer it to a newer model notebook in the future that has a PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD slot.

Otherwise, the Samsung 980 PCIe Gen 3.0 would be a suitable alternative for your notebook.

I've already told you what generation the PCIe slot is...3.0.

You need a notebook with a minimum of an Intel 11th gen core processor for the slot to be PCIe Gen 4.0.

I already gave you a recommended alternative to the Samsung 990.

If you want a 1 TB drive, this one is PCIe Gen 3.0.

Another option which cost less would be this one:

is this will compitable to my laptop, why I’m asking means it gen 4

HP Recommended

Yes, that drive would work but again, it will not reach its maximum advertised write speeds of 4150MB/s out of your notebook's M.2 Gen 3.0 SSD slot.

But it's a good price, so it is probably worth the little bit of extra money for only 1 rupee more.

I meant to post this one, which is the Gen 3.0 model.
