Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding assistance with RAM and SSD upgrades. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- .Did you check the product specifications and service manual completely?
For now, let me keep you posted about a few things here:
- The maintenance and service guide http://hp.care/2BDVI9A is spot on. Refer to pages 1, 21 and 38 for the type of ram modules, its maximum capacity along with part numbers and how to install them.
- The product specifications link: http://hp.care/2BkAMqx is also given.
- Technically it should qualify for a Maximum ram upgrade of 16 GB.
- The maintenance and service guide clearly mentions that there is an M.2 slot for an SSD upgrade/. Refer to pages 2 and 37 for the type of SSDs, its maximum capacity along with part numbers and how to install them.
Please note that HP does not recommend upgrading either the operating system or the computer’s hardware as the components that were initially installed with the unit are certified by HP for optimal performance. However, as you are very technically inclined, I would still request you to consult a local technician like Best Buy or Staples before proceeding to upgrade the unit.
So please contact a local Best Buy or staples technician and perform the upgrade so that there are no compatibility issues with the computer and everything works smoothly.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. :)

Thank you, The answers and links you provided helped a lot
Though this bit did give me a laugh, as one of the major selling points for me when I purchased it was the fact the Omen was advertised as upgradable, lol

I have reviewed the post comprehensively. Thank you for your super quick response. I am glad that the information provided helped and was useful. You've displayed superb technical competence, immaculate attitude and a no no-nonsense approach that is really appreciative. Kudos to you for a job well done. 🙂
Let me keep you posted about a few things here:
Not every customer who posts their queries are technically as savvy and have the same technical levels competence and skills like you have.
If I don't give this information about upgrades, some customers upgrade without basic knowledge of what is happening and go ahead with the upgrade only to find that the computer does not work anymore. Afer all the wind does not always blow in the right direction.
Here is an example:
- Sometimes some customers don't check about the bios update, ram module bus speeds, its capacity when compared to the existing RAM on the computer and order ram modules and install it on the computer only to find that it is not working anymore.
- Later on, they may come back only to state that despite installing the memory modules the computer still does not work.
- There could be 2 reasons for this.
- The first one may be due to the fact that the RAM module is not the correct bus speed or capacity as the other RAM module.
- The second reason could be attributed to the fact that they have not taken proper precautions regarding discharging static while installing the RAM. So the RAM module might have become defective.
- So considering and weighing in several factors the information about upgrades is given to customers.
What I admire about you the most is the fact that you call a spade a spade without beating around the bush. So that feedback about the upgrade disclaimer is taken whole heatedly.
You are a valued HP customer and it has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you and terrific to work with you. Now trust me I've done all I can to assist you by keeping your best interest in mind. I hope the product works great and lasts you a long time. 🙂

Take care and have a blessed year ahead. stay healthy and smile big. 🙂
