Microsoft Windows 11

Hi.

I have issues with something that makes my wifi button dissapear, and airplane mode is there but I cant click it. When trying to change adapter, I only have ethernet choice.
I see alot of solution on google, but nothing is working. Is it virus or something.

What can I do, bring my computer to the shop again and demand them to fix it or have I broken my computer.

@JCBN, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having a frustrating experience with your HP Victus laptop where the Wi-Fi disappears and airplane mode can't be turned off. Let's go through some proven steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Fully Shut Down and Power Cycle

  • Hold down the Shift key and click Shut Down from the Start menu (this bypasses Fast Startup).
  • Wait 1 minute.
  • Boot back up and check if Wi-Fi reappears.

Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings.
  2. Scroll down and click Network Reset.
  3. Click Reset now and restart the PC.

This action removes and reinstalls all network adapters, which often fixes issues with airplane mode or missing Wi-Fi.

Check Device Manager for Missing Wi-Fi Driver

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Network adapters.
  3. Look for entries like “Realtek RTL8822CE” or “Intel AX201.” If you see a yellow exclamation mark, an unknown device, or just Ethernet listed, it indicates a problem.

If Wi-Fi is missing:

  • Click Action > Scan for hardware changes.
  • If nothing shows up, visit HP website to install the official Wi-Fi driver for your laptop.

Direct link for your model (15-fa1000 series):
🔗 HP Support – Drivers and Downloads Look for a driver under “Driver-Network.”

Manually Install Wi-Fi Driver

If the Wi-Fi driver is still missing:

  • Download the correct Wi-Fi driver from HP (or from Intel if your device uses an Intel chip).
  • Run the installer.
  • After installation, restart and check if the Wi-Fi adapter appears.

Check BIOS Wi-Fi Settings

Sometimes Wi-Fi gets disabled at the BIOS level:

  1. Reboot and press Esc or F10 (depends on your system) to enter BIOS.
  2. Look for an option like Wireless LAN and ensure it's Enabled.
  3. Save and exit.

Run Hardware Diagnostics (F2)

You can check if the Wi-Fi card is physically recognized:

  1. Reboot your laptop.
  2. Tap F2 repeatedly to enter HP Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Component Test > Network > Wireless Module Test.

If it fails or says Not Detected, your wireless card may be disconnected or malfunctioning.

While it's unlikely that a virus is causing this specific issue, if you're suspicious:

  • Run a scan with Windows Defender or Malwarebytes to ensure your system is clean.
  • If Wi-Fi disappeared after a sketchy install or update, consider doing a System Restore to a point before that.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
