Microsoft Windows 11

I have a rtx 3060 gpu omen laptop with an i7 16gb and 1tb ssd 4k screen at 16 inches and windows 11. The laptop works fine and then when I need to access settings from control panel or the settings application, the settings appear to be missing. The settings are challenging to configurate and a lot of options are missing. Am I running on an outdated version of windows 11 software package or did I not install the operating system correctly in the beginning? A lot of windows OS features are accessible through windows 10 and are clear to access.  In windows 11, these features appear to be missing and I am not yet sure how to access them at all.

The feature that I was searching for is the power settings changer. As I have a gpu, the settings need to be changed to a higher level. and also tweaked to minimise fan noise without causing overheating to the system. The system creates a lot of noise during gaming sessions and I need to reduce this noise through power management option but no such button allows me to do so. I was wondering if I reached the maximum capacity of the hardware? Does anyone have a solution?

Hi @omenpc3060i7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with accessing certain settings in Windows 11, particularly those related to power management and GPU performance. Here are a few steps and solutions that might help you resolve these issues:

1. Check for Windows Updates

Make sure your Windows 11 is up to date:

  1. Open Settings: Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Windows Update: Navigate to Windows Update on the left sidebar.
  3. Check for updates: Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

2. Use the Search Function

If you're having trouble finding specific settings, use the search function:

  1. Open Search: Press Win + S to open the search bar.
  2. Type the setting you're looking for: For example, type "Power & sleep settings" or "Control Panel" and select the appropriate result.

3. Access Power Settings via Control Panel

Some settings are still available through the Control Panel:

  1. Open Control Panel: Press Win + R, type control, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to Power Options: Go to Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
  3. Change plan settings: Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan, and then Change advanced power settings.

4. NVIDIA Control Panel for GPU Settings

To manage your GPU settings and performance, use the NVIDIA Control Panel:

  1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel: Right-click on the desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Adjust settings: Navigate to Manage 3D settings to adjust global and program-specific settings for your GPU.

5. OMEN Gaming Hub

Since you have an HP OMEN laptop, use the OMEN Gaming Hub to manage performance and cooling:

  1. Open OMEN Gaming Hub: Search for OMEN Gaming Hub in the Start menu and open it.
  2. Performance Control: Look for performance settings and adjust the fan speed, performance modes, and other settings to balance performance and noise.

6. Missing Settings Issue

If certain settings are still missing or the Settings app isn't functioning correctly, you might need to reset or repair the Settings app:

  1. Reset the Settings app:
    • Open Settings: Press Win + I.
    • Go to Apps: Navigate to Apps > Apps & features.
    • Find Settings: Scroll down to find Settings in the list, click on it, and select Advanced options.
    • Reset or Repair: Choose Repair first. If that doesn't work, choose Reset.

7. Power Management for Laptops

Ensure you have the latest drivers and utilities from HP:

  1. Install Updates: Install any available BIOS, chipset, and power management drivers.

8. Check for Windows Feature Experience Pack

Make sure you have the latest Windows Feature Experience Pack installed:

  1. Open Settings: Press Win + I.
  2. Go to System: Navigate to System > About.
  3. Check for the Windows Feature Experience Pack version: It should be updated along with regular Windows updates, but ensure it’s current.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
