Microsoft Windows 11

i have a HP victus 15 laptop purchased in march 2024 and as of now the camera is not working, basically what happens is if u try to open the camera app it just shows a black screen which shows the text front camera and keeps flashing the camera light near the lens every 7 seconds. I contacted Microsoft customer care and got in touch with them and they tried everything and said its not a driver issue consider contacting your manufacturer.

Hi @Aadhi1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for providing the details. We understand that on your HP Victus 15, the camera opens to a black screen showing "Front Camera," while the camera LED flashes periodically. We also appreciate that you have already worked with Microsoft support and confirmed they did not identify a Windows or driver-related cause.

Since the behavior includes a flashing camera light and a persistent black screen, let's focus on specific hardware and firmware checks that can help isolate the cause.

Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Shut down the notebook completely.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter.
  • If any external devices are connected, disconnect them.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and start the notebook.
  • Test the Camera app again.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics for the Camera

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Power it on and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Look for a Camera Test or Component Test related to the webcam.
  • Run the available test and note any failure ID or error message.

Check the Camera in BIOS

  • Restart the notebook and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Look for an option related to Integrated Camera, Webcam, or Internal Devices.
  • Verify that the camera is enabled.
  • Save any changes and restart.

Update the BIOS Using HP Support

  • Compare the BIOS version installed on the notebook with the latest version available for your specific Victus 15 model.
  • If a newer BIOS is available, install it and restart the notebook.

Test the Camera Outside of Windows

  • Open HP Hardware Diagnostics and run available camera-related tests.
  • If the camera continues showing a black screen and the LED keeps flashing even after BIOS and hardware checks, that points more toward the camera module or its connection rather than Windows settings.

Device Manager Verification

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Cameras.
  • Confirm whether the webcam appears normally or shows a warning symbol.
  • If listed, right-click the camera, select Uninstall device, restart the notebook, and allow Windows to detect it again.

To help narrow this down further, could you confirm:

  • The exact HP Victus 15 model number (for example, 15-faxxxx or 15-fbxxxx)?
  • Does the webcam appear under Device Manager > Cameras?
  • Does the camera test in HP Hardware Diagnostics pass or return a failure ID?

That information will help us provide the most appropriate next steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
