Hi @Amit89555,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing, where your HP Omen gaming laptop charges only when shut down but not when it's open and running, can stem from several potential causes. Here are some common reasons and troubleshooting steps to help identify and resolve the problem.

Battery Settings and Power Management:

  • Check Power Plan Settings: Ensure that your power plan settings are not restricting charging. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and review your current power plan settings.
  • Battery Saver Mode: Disable any battery saver modes that might be preventing charging.

BIOS Settings and Updates:

  • Update BIOS: Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve power management issues. Check HP's official website for any available BIOS updates for your specific model.
  • Check BIOS Settings: Enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing Esc, F10, or another key during startup) and look for any power-related settings that could affect charging.

Drivers and Software:

  • Update Drivers: Ensure that your battery, chipset, and power management drivers are up-to-date. You can find these on the HP support website.
  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant tool to automatically detect and install necessary updates for your laptop.

Hardware Issues:

  • Power Adapter and Cable: Ensure that your power adapter and cable are functioning properly. Try using another compatible charger to see if the issue persists.
  • Charging Port: Inspect the charging port on your laptop for any visible damage or debris that might be affecting the connection.

Software Conflicts:

  • Background Processes: High power usage from background applications can sometimes interfere with charging. Check Task Manager for any high-usage processes and close unnecessary ones.
  • Malware or Virus: Perform a full system scan to rule out malware or viruses that could be affecting system performance and power management.

Battery Health:

  • Battery Diagnostic: Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check the health of your battery. A failing battery might charge inconsistently.
  • Battery Replacement: If your battery is old or damaged, it might need to be replaced.

Operating System Issues:

  • Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches.
  • System Restore: If the issue started recently, you might try performing a system restore to a point before the problem began.
