i intend to use keyboard cover to prevent dust getting into the crevices between the keys. just wanted to know whether the spaces between the bases of the keys is intended for air circulation (ventilation) and whether covering it would cause heating issue? is it safe/recommended to use keyboard cover?

It is OK to cover the keyboard when OFF. Some machines I do not use cover keyboards of our machines, this practice has been around from the last century.
