Hi @Ohexp

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry this has happened—especially after a factory reset that was meant to give your system a fresh start. When your gaming laptop gets stuck at the update screen and keeps rebooting at the same percentage, it usually means the update process has stalled due to a corrupted file, driver conflict, or power interruption.

Let’s walk through how to safely break the loop and restore control.

Step-by-step actions to fix update loop after factory reset

Force a full shutdown

  • Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds until the laptop powers off completely
  • Wait 30 seconds before turning it back on

Boot into recovery mode

  • Turn on the laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F11 to enter HP Recovery Environment
  • If F11 doesn’t work, try Shift + F8 during boot

Choose “Troubleshoot” > “Advanced Options”

  • Select Startup Repair to fix boot-related issues
  • If that fails, go back and choose System Restore (if restore points exist)

Reset again using local recovery

  • If the update loop persists, choose Reset this PC > Remove everything
  • Select Local reinstall (not cloud) to avoid update-related stalls

Use HP Cloud Recovery Tool (if needed)
