Experiencing a black screen after a BIOS update can be frustrating. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

 

Steps to Resolve Black Screen Issue

 

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect External Devices: Remove all external devices (USBs, external monitors, etc.)
  • Power Down the Laptop: Hold down the power button until the laptop turns off completely.
  • Remove Battery and Charger: If possible, remove the battery and unplug the charger.
  • Press Power Button: Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Reinsert Battery and Charger: Reconnect the battery and charger, then power on the laptop.

 

2. Check BIOS Settings

  • Access the BIOS: Restart the laptop and immediately press the ESC key, followed by F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Reset BIOS to Default: Find the option to reset BIOS settings to default, usually under the "Exit" or "Main" tab.
  • Save and Exit: Save the settings and exit the BIOS.

 

3. Recover the BIOS

  • Plug in a USB Flash Drive: Download the BIOS file from the HP support website to a USB flash drive.
  • Enter BIOS Recovery Mode: Turn off the laptop, then press and hold the Windows key + B key. While holding these keys, press the power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • BIOS Recovery: Follow the on-screen prompts to recover the BIOS using the USB flash drive.

 

4. Perform a Windows System Restore

  • Enter Safe Mode: Restart the laptop and press F8 repeatedly to enter Safe Mode.
  • System Restore: Navigate to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore. Choose a restore point before the BIOS update.
