Hi:

Unless someone on this forum has a 17-cm2xxx notebook and has taken it apart, I doubt anyone here can provide a 100% accurate answer.

That is because the service manual that HP has linked to your notebook's support page is for an entirely different model series with older hardware.

According to chapter 1 for that model series notebook it does have support for two M.2 NVMe SSD's.

So the question is...is this manual also the same one used for your notebook's model series or not?

I suggest you open up the notebook and check to make sure it has an empty NVMe slot before buying one.

I could not find any service videos from HP for the 17-cm model series.

You're very welcome.

Since this is a peer-to-peer forum and we don't work for or represent HP, we cannot provide official guidance regarding the warranty terms.

According to chapter 5 of the service manual, HP wants any work to be done by an authorized service center.

Off the record, most folks that have the know-how usually upgrade their notebooks themselves., because that saves a lot of money, and some folks find it challenging and enjoyable to do.

What concerns me is that if the procedures in the service manual do not match your actual notebook, it may be difficult for you to figure out how it comes apart.

One thing I do know...if your notebook ever needs warranty service you must return it to its original condition as received when you purchased it.

That would mean removing a second SSD, or any additional memory upgrades you installed.

If you want an official response from HP regarding the warranty status if you remove the bottom cover, please contact HP customer support beginning at the link below:

Regarding a recommended 2 TB NVMe SSD:

I recommend the relatively new model Samsung 990 Pro.

Otherwise, the Samsung 980 Pro.

They are both PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD's.
