OMEN by HP - 17-an008tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi guys,

I have a HP Omen 17-an008tx and when I try to play games without the charger connected , it just shuts down suddenly. If I have the charger plugged in there is no issue, only on battery.

I ordered a new battery thinking that this may be the issue but is doing the same thing. The guy at the service says that this is normal as the gaming laptops are not designed to play high spec games on battery and that I should plug in the charger if I want to play. I find it very hard to believe that HP made a gaming laptop that you can only use while charging.

Is it normal for this to happen? Do you have any suggestions on fixing this?

Thanks a lot!

Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:

  • An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
  • The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
  • HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.

(2Reboot

(3) Let BIOS be installed until it's completely done !

Done! All the steps.

It does the same thing... I think there might be a hardware problem, maybe with the power source on the motherboard?

The service is trying to explain that this is normal for a gaming laptop to shutdown when the game is having specs too high because the battery has only 80mWh (and I am talking about God of War for example, which is a 2018 game). I don't think a HP would put a battery on an Omen that would not withstand any game specs and would cause the laptop to suddenly shutdown

Did you guys ever heard about something like this as being "a normal issue"?

PS: It is not a HP official service, but a reseller for second hand laptops
