Hi @ap203,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your OMEN by HP 16-xf0000 gaming laptop gets ~100 Mbps on Ethernet but only 15 Mbps on Wi-Fi, even after updating drivers, here are the most likely causes and fixes:

Why Wi-Fi Speed Is Low

  1. Router Band or Distance
    • If connected to 2.4 GHz, speeds are much lower than 5 GHz.
    • Check your router settings and connect to the 5 GHz band.
  2. Wi-Fi Adapter Settings
    • Windows may be using Power Saving Mode for Wi-Fi.
    • Or the adapter is set to 802.11n instead of 802.11ac/ax.
  3. Channel Congestion
    • If many devices share the same channel, speed drops.
    • Use router settings or an app like Wi-Fi Analyzer to pick a less crowded channel.

Fixes to Try

1. Force 5 GHz Connection

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage Known Networks.
  • Forget the network and reconnect, ensuring it’s the 5 GHz SSID.

2. Change Wi-Fi Adapter Properties

  • Press Windows + X → Device ManagerNetwork Adapters.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Properties > Advanced.
  • Set:
    • Preferred Band = 5 GHz
    • Wireless Mode = 802.11ac or ax
    • Roaming Aggressiveness = Medium

3. Disable Power Saving

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings.
  • Under Wireless Adapter Settings, set Maximum Performance.

4. Update Router Firmware

  • Log in to your router’s admin page and check for updates.

5. Test with HP Network Diagnostics

  • Open HP Support AssistantNetwork Check.
